lol at OCD, am pmsl at these shitey ghosts, rattling pot plants and jingling slippers. were they morris dancers in a past life, do you think? whatever happened to the traditional wooooooohhhhoooooooooh?

and it's infinitely more likely that your neighbour was embarrassed about her and dh's s&m torture chamber than it was a ghost, spinspin.

Rhubarb · 13/02/2009 13:49

So what's that torch like object the "shadow" is holding then that shines onto the wall (upper right of the footage)?

AitchTwoOh · 13/02/2009 13:54

tbh it does look a bit (although not completely) like when a car drives past and their lights shine through the window twice. i know whomoved did say that already but the more i think about it, the more right that seems in the cold light of day.

Rhubarb · 13/02/2009 14:03

There is definitely a light that is shining to the right of the shadow, lighting up the hall so that the shadow shows up more clearly.

The boy wouldn't have a light on his phone.

It's a scam.

I love a good ghost story but had to comment on the OP

Is it real?

From the Sun

Well that'll be a no then.

Will try and get back on here later with some of my own stories to share.

Guadalupe · 13/02/2009 14:50

Oooh, but the torch-like light could be an orb lighting his way. Hmm.

Careful, Rhubarb, you might start seeing things.

I find that people who believe in ghosts, see them, and people who do not, don't. Why is that?

The mind is a funny thing. You can see many things if you are so inclined.

I know. I saw gigantic orange spiders and they stuck me in the funny farm and swallowed the key

expatinscotland · 13/02/2009 18:24

it looks like a hoax.

blueshoes · 13/02/2009 18:30

You also have to ask yourself why the clip stopped when it did. Why did the boy abruptly stop filming? Could it be because, if it was a hoax, that making the ghost float up the stairs would have been too difficult.

piratecat · 13/02/2009 18:41

aitch, how would you explain the plant then?

i always thought id seen a ghost when i was little stood at the end of my bed. but since then ive gone though periods of time when ive seen loads of scary stuff just as im waking up. i think its some kind of extension of the night terrors thing mentioned earlier. my brain goes haywire and makes pictures out of shadows. what i do see if clear as day and scarey as hell. ive seen a person with their throat slit stood in my room, a snake coming out from under my dhs neck when he was asleep and a god knows what looking out of dd2s waderope when i fell asleep in her bed one night.nothing to do with ghosts sorry

When I was a child, we lived in a 300+year-old house, with a prison attatched at the back!
The workmen had all seen an elderly woman phantom (we found this out years after we had moved) but many many really odd things happened. Stuff would disappear and then reappear wdays or weeks later in obscure places (like a guest's shoe which turned up under the bedsheet in the middle of the bed, after the room had been searched)

I found a load of tiny wax animal figures under some tiles in an understairs cupboard after I dreamed they would be there. (that's why I lifted the tiles)

The dogs and cats used to freak out at stuff which we couldn't see.

We had cold spots and strange noises and once, when my mum and I were lying in her bed, we head footsteps walk across the attic above us and back again. The house was empty bar us.

I am hugely sceptical of other people's ghosts though . But I can say that house was definitely not normal.

When I had proper flu, I was visited by an elderly lady who told me I would feel better soon. I thought she was the doctor...of course, I could well have been hallucinating. (I was very ill.)

When we stayedin a hooiday home about 6 years ago there was definately something not right with that house.....

it was sir walter rayleigh's house and dated back to 16thC.

Parts of it were very dark and felt cold and scarey but we convinced ourselves ( 3 families staying together ) that it was just our imagination.

Second night in we decied to explore the library area whihch was at teh end of a corridor we' hadn't been down yet ( it had 15 bedrooms and was very very big). I opneed the door of the room and a book jumped from teh shlef and fell onthe floor. Nothing that unusual there as these things can happen especially if room locked for a few weeks, vibrations etc. Anywaty we went in and put on the light and retrieved book - whcih was called - " Devil worship in the 18thC"and was an original work dating back 200yrs.

I felt a cold chill and tears came to my eyes instinctively. I sensed something not right and wanted to go home.

Subseuqnet events got worse. There were parts of the house that were always frezing , the kids heard noises in the night, one night bats invaded our au pair's room supposedly from the chimney there ( so the caretaker told us ) but in sticking chimney sweep instruments up we found out it was blocked.

Also in photos something very weird and strange happened. My dd then aged 5 sat on an old and ornate chiar in the hallway and we took a picutre. Similarly my firend also sat there for a picture on different day - unrelated. When teh pics were devleoped my dd had narrowed slit like eyes and a weird lopsided grin - def not like what she'd been on the day. worse though was my friend who's picture still chills us - she had red teeth and an open mouth like an animal and totally mad hair - an almost savage air about her. We still have this photo and look at it sometimes when we remember this holiday and think we must have been crazy..........

lisalisa · 15/02/2009 22:50

And actually in my own house I feel something not quite right....many small and silly incidents can all be explained away but 2 stick in my mind....

1 The most recent one was about a year ago - no more. We were - dh and I and 4 kids gathered in dining room on friday night for family meal. Dh was actualy abotu to say a prayer that we say over wine so was pretty quiet in the room and baby ds2 then 2 was asleep in his cot upstairs. Suddenly, as clear as a bell we heard footsteps running up the stairs . they were definately men's footsteps as heavy and loud.

Shit said dh - we're being burgled. We all stood stock still - we were too scared to move and a million thoughts went through my mind. We must have stood still about 2 mins until I said to dh - " take the knife from the kitchen drawer and go upstairs as baby ds2 is there - quickly!!!".

This broke the silence and as dh went to the kicthen the kids got panicked and started to cry softly. Dh told me to move them towards the door and as we stated to move - us towarsd the door and dh towards teh kitchen to get knife we heard again the same heavy runnign steps on the hall upstairs.

" GEt out " screamed dh to us and weopeend teh front door and fled outside. " Dh - please pleae hurry and get X ( baby ds2) i said full of panic as we thought intruder upstairs now and all sorts of scenarios coming to mind.

Dh sprung upstairs whilst our neighbours came out to see what was oging on and started taking kids in their houses. Dh searched all upstairs. Baby ds2 awake and crying in his cot but no sign of intruder. Nothing. Nada. Zero.

Dh in his prgamiacti way now explains it variously as wind, wood stairs relaxing, imaginatino etc, too mcuh to drnk. But all of us heard it . At the same time. Together .

2 The next inscident is even more spooky. Happened many years ago when 12 yr old dd was 18 month sold and in a cot. Dh was away abroad and his mother had come to stay with me to keep me company whlst he was away. One night we were downstairs chatting and suddenly heard the sound of the shower in my en suite bathroom . Only dh uses that shower as I hate it and I use the other bathroom to have a long luxurious bath as does mother in law. Anwya no -one else in teh house apart from baby dd. We listened to the sound for about 5 mins wondering wheat it was that sounded so like the shower knowing that it obvioulsy couldn't be as dh wasn't even in the country!!

After about half an hour we said we'd gingerly go upstiars to check - we were just worried about dd and geed eachother up as to what it could be . To our shock we found shower soaking wet and wet towel thrown on teh floor. No sign of entry anwyere and no one else in teh house. We called dh in tears both of us and I insisted he come home. Of course he didn't and over the years the sotry has been changed so that dh insists mother in law must have used teh shower beforehand ( he knows I hate that shower and won't use it ) and we must have imagined the noise. But she didn't use it and we didn't imagine the noise.

BitOfFun · 15/02/2009 22:51

lisalisa, that sounds really sinister! Did your friend see her photo? What was her reaction?

themoon66 · 15/02/2009 23:01

Ooooh lisalisa... please post the pics on your profile!!!

lisalisa · 15/02/2009 23:03

Bifoffun - it was sinister. yes my friend saw her photo as it was on her camera. We all laughed uneasily at the time and said how wierd she looked but now - 6 years later - when we talk about that holiday and look at photos no -one has any explanation of that and it does very mcuh frighten us.

Our season was the first that the house had been rented ( at least in recent years) and was still rented a while ago I think. May even be with same holiday company I don't kbnow.
Other wierd thing theere was the library contained many very very old books which must surely have been wortht a lot of money adn we wondered why they had been left there with holiday guests who could steal them? As a property lawyer I was partiucarly intereste in "English land law in the 18th C" which was an original work - yellowing and very musty quoting laws from teh 17th centruy in conveyanicng. It was wildly fascian ting but just strange . When we questioned caretaker ( who had inherited teh house) he said he didn't want toremove anything and prefereed not to go to house too much but wouldn't elabrate). he was veyr definate though in insisting theree were no ghosts just old house etc- hmmmm, we think he had his eye on money for the retnal season .

My granny remarried and agreed to take her new husband's spinster sister (Maud) in. granny was very mean to spinster sister in law, Maud, and banished her to live in a cold room at the other end of their very big victoria house. Maud was only allowed through the living room to the kitchen 4 times a day... breakfast, dinner, tea and supper. Maud died before I was born.

When I was little I remember the big old kitchen door would creak and rattle at 7pm. Someone would always say... 'oh it's just Maud'. Maud had been dead 10 years.

To this day, in our family, if a door comes open of its own accord, someone will always casually say 'oh its only Maud'.

drlove8 · 15/02/2009 23:28

themoon66 ... your granny was a total bitch! good for maud, no wonder she haunted !lol

AitchTwoOh · 15/02/2009 23:32
