gosh, I didn't mean to sound like that - I agree that all sorts of people can make fantastic parents - but I wonder if she has the capability of understanding about the impact of her actions. the judge thought that Matthews and her codefendant "weren't capable" of masterminding the plot...

I would say the sentence is about right. But, when compared to the man who killed four of his seven children as a result of tinkering with his 4x4, it seems quite harsh, IMO.

4x4 man was obviously a total idiot, but he didn't set out to harm his kids. Whereas Karen Matthews drugged her kid for month and deliberately put her through a terrifying ordeal.

I take your point but still feel his sentence was lenient in comparison.
