I've heard it all now

Jeez that's some neglect.

Good that the judge has imposed a 12 month supervision order. Sounds like she went to parenting classes in order to pre-empt a higher sentence. But that could be me being cynical, let's hope she learned something.

RTKangaMummy · 22/01/2009 18:13

i couldn't really believe what i just saw on bbc news

i think he should be taken into foster care imho

Marthasmama · 22/01/2009 18:14

No, I'd say that was spot on, not at all cynical! Probably would have been advised to do so by defence lawyer.

onager · 22/01/2009 18:18

Doesn't sound good does it. The sneaking off she might not have known about I suppose, but not the one in the same room.

I notice the friend was reaching for a camera and not to snatch the lighter away from him which would have been my first thought.

wannaBe · 22/01/2009 18:22

I did wonder about the friend. I would have taken the lighter away from him too. Then again I guess if she was planning to report it, (and given that she'd already seen him in the other room), she needed more concrete evidence than "my friend lets her three year old smoke."

If he was actually smoking, drawing it into his lungs quite happily, like it is reported, then CLEARLY he had been doing it regularly for some time. I know for a fact that a non-smoker, having a puff, has a quite different reaction! (cough/choke/eyes popping/whatever ) You don't take a deep drag and blow it out!

Clearly he knew what he was doing. I don't buy for a second that she didn't know about it. Terrible if she did - but tbh, just as bad if somehow he had managed -at 3 to learn to smoke without her realising. I mean, come ON.

I am sure there will be posts defending her and urging us not to judge lest we be judged, and lots of angry faces at our terrible attitude towards a poor mother who may be , but fuck me, some things DESERVE judgement.

oh

Shock

the person filming it not snatching the cig away - that's a bit like that tv ad for, I do believe, the Daily Mail, where there is a toddler outfacing a cobra and they are fliming it rather than snatching the toddler away! Mental. If that's the standard of Daily Mail contributors then the contents can't be a surprise to anyone.

What sad story

I think some people are all too worthy of judgement.

I'm sure those that disagree will be along in time though.

I don't think so in this case, WannaBe.

Coldtits · 22/01/2009 18:38

NewApprehensiveBeginning · 22/01/2009 18:52

I just heard this on the news.

BrownSuga · 22/01/2009 18:58

Flippin heck, and there's the concern that he could start a fire in the house, messing about with lighters.

StealthPo09IsHere · 22/01/2009 19:06

So it's not just that he was smoking, as a one off but he was actually a smoker
I have heard it all now

ANamesANameForAThatsTaken · 22/01/2009 19:16

the woman who filmed the little boy smoking did exactly the right thing.

Snatching the ciggie out of his hand would only have stopped him then, it still would have continued.

Wonder what lovely treat she's got lined up for his first day at school. Snorting cocaine, mainlining heroin, the options are endless.

Fancy the judge giving him back to his mother

Lilyloo · 22/01/2009 19:20

it really does beggar belief

BouncingTartan · 22/01/2009 19:57
