My brother (journo) will be THERE.

Earlybird · 19/01/2009 19:57

12 noon in Washington would be 17.00 in the UK

Themasterandmargaritas · 20/01/2009 05:08

Great timing for us as it will all start at 7pm here. Just the right time for Kenyans to go out and get pissed party.

SuperBunny · 20/01/2009 05:19

Is the actual speach at 12? I'm worried I'm going to miss it

Themasterandmargaritas · 20/01/2009 05:22

Super - you are in Chicago aren't you? Won't the whole`city stop so that you can all watch it? Big screens in the city centre all that kind of jazz?

SuperBunny · 20/01/2009 05:30

Yes I am! But no day off

We're going to a lunchtime party with other families but we have to leave at 2 so I am hoping it is all done by then!

Sputnik · 20/01/2009 09:01

For those of you wondering how Bush will be leaving the Whitehouse

We are having an Obama Party tonight.

The DCs have been drawing American flags and we are having American Bean Pie followed by Brownies.

We will be drinking French and Swiss wines though. I have a bottle of bubbly in the fridge.

Gavlaar · 20/01/2009 18:50

oh bush was at the inauguration. bit weird for him I bet.

Shame Obama fluffed his lines! nerves I suppose.

Good speech though

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/01/2009 19:36

Can't work out which thread to post on!
I thought it was a really good speech. Well balanced, strong and very well delivered. I particularly liked the parts he addressed to other countries and regimes.

We had a small bottle of champagne with dinner to mark this day in history

Earlybird · 20/01/2009 19:39

Obama didn't fluff the lines - the justice reciting the oath fluffed, and Obama recognised it. His hesitation was linked to whether or not to recite correct oath or recite words delivered by person swearing him in.....according to US political commentators.

Gavlaar · 20/01/2009 19:44

ahhhh. i see. i was trying to convince a stroppy toddler that he wanted to play quietly at the time!

I just thought he might be a bit nervous. reminded me of that Vicar of Dibley episode where Alice gets married and gets the vows wrong!

i'm glad it was the justice fluffing the lines and not Obama.

Gavlaar · 20/01/2009 19:44

I mean President Obama

Gavlaar · 20/01/2009 19:49

Oh dear, apparently Ted Kennedy has collapsed at the dinner they're holding at the mo. they're waiting for the paramedics

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/01/2009 19:52

blimey.

Wasn't it fantastic?

And after all the pomp and excitement and tears, I was left pondering the really important issues:

Do they get brand new bathroom suites in their private quarters? (I mean, wouldn't want to sit on the same WC as the Previous Incumbent, would you.)

And seeing how cold Huw Edwards looked (clearly not wearing a vest) and then looking at those crowds and seeing how well wrapped up they were, surely the Great Vest Debate has been decided?

I think we should be told.

To be fair, Ted Kennedy's a wanker.

Oh my god - I love the man.

One of the first things he's done is lift Bush's veto on US funding for clinics in developing countries providing abortion services/counselling alongside other family planning services.
