But remember, he's not the messiah

BBC1, 4pm-6pm

Under normal circumstances I would be excited for him.
As it is, I almost feel sorry for the chap.

A more perfect illustration of 'poisoned chalice'
I could not come up with.

Actually, I am praying to God/Allah/whatever SGB&UQD believe in
that he IS the messiah.
Coz we need a fucking miracle now, that's for sure.

Winebeforepearls · 19/01/2009 09:23

Well quite. But as a rule Americans don't do despair, so I have hope that they have hope.

OP posts:
DaddyJ · 19/01/2009 09:25

That's a good point. American can-do magic would come in handy.
Fingers crossed.

Winebeforepearls · 19/01/2009 09:37

I thought I might sit dcs down with popcorn to watch - historic moment n all that.

Actually I feel a bit sorry for him, I wouldn't fancy starting a new job with a 'to do' list that included trying to bring peace to the middle east, sorting out the economic mess that the US is in, closing Guantanamo Bay, sorting out the US healthcare system so that 23,000 people a year don't die because they don't have healthcare...

reikizen · 19/01/2009 16:56

I'm annoyed I won't be able to watch due to taking DD1 swimming (boo). I'd rather be watching history being made as I still remember watching Nelson Mandela coming out of prison with a misty eye.

Themasterandmargaritas · 19/01/2009 17:00

Wine, but he is the Messiah to all the people here in Kenya. I tell you they are all much more excited than you are.

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 19/01/2009 17:25

I will be making the DCs watch whether they like it or not.

Rindercella · 19/01/2009 17:31

I'd like a second (and third, fourth & fifth) coming with Obama

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/01/2009 17:35

I can't wait to hear his inaugural speech - but talk about pressure!!
dd has judo so I'll be out from 4:45 til 5:30. Boo hiss!!!! I really wanted dd to see it but shes just moved up a class. We'll have to watch it taped.

mysterymoniker · 19/01/2009 17:38

I wish I was more excited, but there's something about him I don't like

Winebeforepearls · 19/01/2009 18:18

at masterandmargaritas - it'll be a national holiday there tomorrow, no?

Rindercella

mysterymoniker - he's just too ... charismatic, intelligent, frankly quite gorgeous? whaaaaat?

OP posts:
Themasterandmargaritas · 19/01/2009 18:24

Rinder I wouldn't kick him out of bed either.

We had an extra public holiday the day after he won the election. I think having another one may be pushing it even for the Kenyans. However there is talk of making January 20th a permanent national holiday. Obama Day. At any rate there are parties galore tomorrow.

tiredsville · 19/01/2009 19:06

Exciting innit

Seriously I don't want glamorous speeches, just sleeves rolled up and on with the job.

TheGreatScootini · 19/01/2009 19:09

I cant wait.I am off tomorrow.I am hoping at least for a performance from JZ and Beyonce or somesuch.(obv am excited about the new dawn of a new era and all that as well)

Winebeforepearls · 19/01/2009 19:20

I will be speeding driving quickly but responsibly back from dds dance class to make 4pm kick-off, but I don't suppose the action will happen til 5ish?

OP posts:
ilovemydogandMrObama · 19/01/2009 19:22

No! It's part of the Constitution that it must happen at 12:00, so whatever the time difference is between DC and UK? (Am a west coast person!)

Desiderata · 19/01/2009 19:25

That poor man is so extraordinarly charismatic that he has 'assassination' written all over him.

ilovemydogandMrObama · 19/01/2009 19:27

Sad Sad Sad

Gavlaar · 19/01/2009 19:28

Smile Smile Smile

ilovemyghds · 19/01/2009 19:30

Desiderata - I worry about that too

Gavlaar · 19/01/2009 19:34

The only other inauguration i've seen is Clinton's. Didn't bother with Bush junior for obvious reasons.

Will bush be at the inauguration? I know you see the outgoing pres get on a helicopter as he and his family leave the white house but can't remember if they go to the "big do" first.

Winebeforepearls · 19/01/2009 19:53

can't believe they do - it would be rather uncomfortable. They'll probably flee to Texas.
