James Bulger Case, on TV now

I remember this from when I was a student, but it didn't connect with me (although I was horrified) as much as now, as a Mom of 2 boys (one of whom is a toddler). James Bulger's mother seems so dignified, I'm not sure I could be in that situation.

OP posts:

His name was Dante Arthurs

Venebles grandads naem was Arthur Dante

His DOB is one day and one year of of his original DOB.

As far as I can see this is the only actual reasons they ahve for linking the 2.

The other one in Ireland was a guy called Sean something who went around boasting to everyone in prioson who he was but surely no one is that thick he was later tested for mental problems.

Might be an indication that it wasnt him.

jingleMAMADIVAsbells · 12/12/2008 13:30

Oops cross posts emma.

devoutsceptic · 12/12/2008 13:34

Dante Arthurs not Venables or Thompson

jingleMAMADIVAsbells · 12/12/2008 13:37

Yeah that's the thing I read before devout.

devoutsceptic · 12/12/2008 13:37

Thompson in UK actually, apparently and unsurprisingly

jingleMAMADIVAsbells · 12/12/2008 13:39

ARGH I am trying to watch the program on Itv catch up but it just keeps playing bloomin Il Divo and Katie melua adverts.

Is anyone else having this problem?

devoutsceptic · 12/12/2008 13:44

snopes on the 'prison officer' who 'met Thompson in prison'

jingleMAMADIVAsbells · 12/12/2008 13:45

There isn't much about the other guy Sean Walsh if I remember rightly, he was the one telling the prisoners who he 'was'

jingleMAMADIVAsbells · 12/12/2008 13:53

I feel sick reading that devout I knew about it but still everytime I read it makes me feel worse. Please warn if your linking details again.

randomxmas · 12/12/2008 14:00

They should be in prison for life

devoutsceptic · 12/12/2008 14:00

why a member of the jury thinks the trial was wrong

jingleMAMADIVAsbells · 12/12/2008 14:04

Devout please please stop posting links if you want a conversation have one you dont need to keep shoving links down peoples throats!

Your luinks are to things which we havce already diwmissed as untrue so whats the point in them?

jingleMAMADIVAsbells · 12/12/2008 14:12

That link has just pissed me right off.

turquoise · 12/12/2008 14:14

I appreciated those links Devout, particularly the last one. Reasoned, intelligent article.

devoutsceptic · 12/12/2008 14:15

No, they are still being repeated as facts, actually. You don't have to read the links, and the last link, in particular, I think is very important in the context of a discussion in which people are happy to talk about stabbing people with scissors and how children are 'evil', which I personally find pretty repellent.
If you are posting on this thread with strong opinions, I image you already know all the ghastly details of the case and don't find it too hideous to think about.

jingleMAMADIVAsbells · 12/12/2008 14:25

I do know alot about the detaisl as I said I have read alot about it and I just asked if you didn't mind warning of links includingf all the gory details as I didn't want to read them again that was all.

Who is talking about stabbing people and children are evil etc? I don't think there have been many on here unless I have missed them.

I didn't like that last link at all because personally I cannot comprehend how anyone could walk along that route say it was tiring and that the boys simply coudln't cope with a 2YO so they just 'disposed' of him, he was a little boy not a piece of rubbish! And even for that matter no one made them take him it's not like they were being forced to take him around with them they were 5 minutes away from the police station and they knew that.

It's not that was a bad article but I just don't understand that logic at all.

jingleMAMADIVAsbells · 12/12/2008 14:29

Aaah okay saw that first post about the scissors perhaps abit OTT but I can sort of see where people are coming from.

I can imagine I'd be like that if someone done something like that to my son.

I would love to say I wouldnt but in all honesty I think I would want revenge.

devoutsceptic · 12/12/2008 14:30

Well, I'm not going to stop posting intelligently written articles just in case someone happens to disagree with someone else's informed opinion! That's ridiculous.

jingleMAMADIVAsbells · 12/12/2008 14:37

I didn't ask you too I was talking about the constant Dante ARthurs ones, we had said they were untrue but you kept posting them as if someone was arguing.

I dont mind the one you posted about the juror etc I was expressing my opinion about it as I thought chat forums were for.

devoutsceptic · 12/12/2008 14:40

Er, two links. One of which contained some details of the case, which you know anyway.

Lulumama · 12/12/2008 14:40

actually, i understand the logic of that. that was a really interesting piece

none of it excuses the behaviour of Thomspon and Venables, but tries to illustrate the shades of grey that the case throws up about good v evil, nature v nurture etc

Tillyblue · 12/12/2008 14:41

jinglemama
i would think that would be im possible if his mother was a childminder. He would not be allowed on the premises during those hours I am convinced.

How much of this is rumour and urban myths?

I look at my 10 year old knowing full well how different her life could have turned out was I not well balanced as her Mother.
I also have a 2yr old boy.

We should not judge.

We know very little of the facts.

Gorionine · 12/12/2008 14:42

I think there is a very big difference between how we would react as mothers if anything bad was done to our DCs and the way we have,as a society,to deal with such horrible facts or events. as parents, acting on impulse is "undestandable" if not "excusable". As a society, if we do not do anything to rehabilitate such offenders, we fail as we decide there is absolutely no hope for a 10 year olsd to reform without even having tried. I actually think we already had failled these boys(all three of them, the victim+the perpetrators) to allow such a thing to have happened in the first place.

jingleMAMADIVAsbells · 12/12/2008 14:44

There is no doubt the two boys were failed other wise James would be alive now, what was actually done about the boys' famillies anyone know?

Tillyblue · 12/12/2008 14:46

Completely agree Gorionine.

God knows what they went through.

But we do know that at least one of them grew up thinking that was the way the world was.

Not an excuse obviously, but perhaps an explanation?
