I'm 45 and my upper arms are fine, lots of weights at the gym see to that. But the skin around my elbows is a bit grim.

iI'm 42 and my arms are okay - but I can tell the difference if I don't go to the gym. It's a life sentence of weights and body pump.

Notanotter - stand with your feet hip width apart, arms at your sides. Raise arms up to the side until your hands are are level with your shoulders (make like a plane in other words ) Then draw little circles with your hands (about the size of a small side plate) while keeping your arms straight the whole time. Go one way first, then the other. Keep going until it really hurts (I used to do about a minute each way) Hey presto, great arms!

I'm with Helen, but there are some very lovely wedding dresses without sleeves, you harsh sleevists! Mine was beeeeyyyyyoootiful. And not waggish at all.

When you are over 40 your arms either have flappy bits or are vile and sinewy a la SJP or Madonna. It is impossible to have anything in between.

My wedding dress didn't have sleeves, I was really self conscious of my arms to be honest, but it is really hard to find a dress with sleeves. I've put a pic on my profile, hopefully I don't look too waggish.

there is nothing, i repeat nothing, more unflattering than sleeveless tops unless you are a complete gymaholic or anorexic. let's face it, 95% of women have unsightly upper arms.

tank tops and strappy dresses should be banned for anyone over 22.

That's daft, beforesunrise - "95% of women have unsightly upper arms." - it's this kind of thing which makes women self-conscious. The 95% is the norm, surely, and the 5% a generally unattainable "odd".

and yes, I know, I know, it's lighthearted. I looked BLOODY GORGEOUS in my sleeveless wedding dress. Absolutely freezing, but gorgeous. So ner.

oops in that case I'm in trouble, I was 35 when I got married. To be fair that is the most flattering picture I could find of my arms. It's all about posture, never stand with your arms clamped to your side, one hand on hip, turn body slightly sideways to the camera and one foot in front of the other, ie classic Liz Hurley pose.

Am i the only person who noticed she specified 'fine see-through sleeves'...which won't cover up tats, wings or hair?

The woman who is next to me at Pilates class is in her late fifties and she has amazing arms (has the body of a highly toned 20yr old)

My wedding dress had translucent sleeves in a floaty fabric - chiffon, I think.
