I wouldn't work in child protection for all the tea in china at the moment, I must say, custy. The extent of the vilification directed at social services has really shocked me. And i thought I was used to being in one of the most unpopular professions ever! I can totally understand that people are rightly sad and angry that a little boy has suffered so horribly and they want people to blame. But the professionals, no matter how inept (and very few people have read the inquiry to ascertain where the ineptness lay exactly) did not kill the baby. Not that many people are willing to do jobs where their mistakes could have such tragic consequences which they would then have to live with forever.

I will stick to the relatively soothing world of adult mental health. And hope none of my clients does anything risky again ever.

(I still haven't purchased a cord skirt.)

I so don't wanna! Imagine if I was named and shamed for seriously letting someone down and top of the "bungling do-gooding bitch should burn in hell" kicking I would expect as inevitable I also had to endure a "cord skirt wearing do gooder" tag as well.
