They've bloody gone and done it again!!!!

Article in support of strippers:

FFS

This leads on from my previous thread here where a man wrote in defence of his use of prostitutes.

There has been no converse/balancing view presented in either case.

I admit I didn't get it together to complain last time but this is taking the piss now. They did not publish a single letter giving an opposing point of view to what "sapphire" wrote. And this paper is read by thousands of schoolchildren every day.

So I have turned into "digusted of tunbridge wells" and complained to the paper, the PCC, and copied to Polly Toynbee (as recommended by tonton - thank you) and The Fawcett Society.

The gist of my complaint was that "Basically thelondonpaper has now run two pieces in it's "columnist" section in support of the sex industry, with no balacing views published at all. The reason that this concerns me is that this is a free paper read by thousands of schoolchildren every day, and the idea that they are having a message fed to them by this paper that the sex industry is a wholly positive thing is disturbing."

Come and tell me I've done the right thing. Feel free to complain too if you want!

I am very interested to see what (if any) responses I get to my emails...

No, I don't like her. I don't like her opinions, the stuff she espouses, her wrongheadedness. the toxic strand of feminism she's part of. etc etc etc.
Having said that I do not wish the farking woman ill, I support her right to spout whatever crap she chooses just as I support mine to laugh at her and be rude about her.

Nothing I wouldn't say to your face - at least, your online face . Given that I don't interact with you in any other context than as words on a screen.

And 'multi-billion dollar industry' my arse. If it was that profitable it wouldn't be so despised.

"And 'multi-billion dollar industry' my arse. If it was that profitable it wouldn't be so despised."

What, like those other very profitable and much-loved industries: drugs, illegal arms-dealing, people trafficking?

tonton · 13/11/2008 10:21

Wopw callisto I couldn't agree more: "Sadly feminism seems to have died a death and people like you and me are seen as prudish killjoys who are trying to stop these deeply empowered women persuing an uplifting career pleasing men"

so depressing. I am brainwashing my dds with feminism and proud of it!

Chukky, like last time, I completely agree qwith you. Did Polly Toynbee reply?

ChukkyPig · 14/11/2008 15:23

I've been away for a couple of days so missed the scuffle.

Got replies from PCC -nothing doing as they haven't broken the code.

Polly Toynbee 'Yes, revolting and phoney - but there's not much anyone can do. they never
apologise, never explain or answer letters...'

I saw something about 'thousands of children' being an exaggeration - around here the tubes are packed with schoolkids maybe there are more travelling further for faith schools/private schools round here - I am often surprised at the numbers and the young ages of children who have to get the tube to school.

Can anyone get the link in the OP to work? It works for me but it looks like I've managed to fuck it up somehow...

I knew in my heart of hearts that nothing would happen but you have to try, don't you...

Still waiting for a reply from the paper, not expecting much...

The link worked for me - I didn't read the real thing. I am still sure it was made up but take your point that some papers seem to have a strange obsession verging on unhealthy interest in sex workers.

ChukkyPig · 15/11/2008 22:15

Seems a bit odd to make it up - that sort of thing never occurs to me - I always think I'm quite cynical but maybe not!

Thanks for letting me know the link was OK I though I was going nuts!
