Short of a MAJOR voting scandal, you are making lots of people in this small island across the pond* very happy

  • and fewer people in your huge neighbour to the north (as my Canadian in laws and husband's extended family will testify!)

When I was about 10 my Dad sat me on his knee and we watched Martin Luther Kings famous speech. Dad said 'This is a very special man but he will never be President' When I asked why he said 'because he is a black man.'

At the time I had no idea what he was talking about but I know my Dad will be excited today. Waiting for his phone call here in Lancashire

.....and no we are not American or black just delighted for change!

Fantastic news.

I unashamedly sobbed at the end of the ITV news at 10 last night when they showed MLK 'I have a dream' speech.
This is a massive day in history.

There is high expectation Mr. Obama, for a new dawn. Please don't let us down.

Congratulations America, you should be proud.

myredcardigan · 05/11/2008 08:18

Fantastic!

Just wish they'd stop saying it shows that anyone can do it when what they mean is anyone with money can do it.

But that's for another day. Well done Obama and America!

LouMacca · 05/11/2008 08:20

YAY! FANTASTIC!

So happy to see that the right man has won! America can be proud that they have made the right choice [happy]

throckenholt · 05/11/2008 08:21

I hope he can find a way to deal with the poison chalice he has been handed - hard to see how anyone to can do much with that in 4 years.

But at least it isn't going to be more of the same hopefully.

Elffriend · 05/11/2008 08:22
