• and fewer people in your huge neighbour to the north (as my Canadian in laws and husband's extended family will testify!)

When I was about 10 my Dad sat me on his knee and we watched Martin Luther Kings famous speech. Dad said 'This is a very special man but he will never be President' When I asked why he said 'because he is a black man.'

At the time I had no idea what he was talking about but I know my Dad will be excited today. Waiting for his phone call here in Lancashire

.....and no we are not American or black just delighted for change!

This is a massive day in history.

i couldnt stay up all night,me and DS stayed up until 1am,DS (who is still on half term) said to me yesterday "this is history in the making mum and i want to see it".

when DH came home off nights this morning,first thing DS said was "has obama won" and when DH said yes,he punched the air and said "YESSSSSSS", Aw he,s only 11!!!

well done america, i woke up this morning and put the news on straight away. i wonder if this is how my mother felt when Kennedy won.
