I can't concentrate on ANYTHING Robert Peston says.

I find the way he speaks far too distracting. It's not that I don't like him, I just don't know what he's saying, ever. Stephanie was so much easier.
Anyone else?

yes, the dyed hair, now that is unforgivable, I really like him apart from that, and despite the fact that I can not concentrate on a word he says.
Andrew Marr on the other hand. His own sense of self importance has spiralled out of control, the opening sequence of him bombing around in his little Nissan Figaro, is excruciatingly vain, I expect he'd say that he intended there to have been some irony in it, but I don't believe him.

marina

they're just kidding themsselves over in W12...over here in WC2 we actually ditch presenters who can't speak

Swedes · 18/09/2008 13:43

He had a
BRILLIANT
day yesterday, did he
NOT?

(I love him.)

Seeline · 18/09/2008 13:47

I can't stand him - please Evan Davis give up the radio and come back. I understood you and you didn't treat me like a child. And you didn't fancy yourself rotten! As for the dyed hair.....

LadyMuck · 18/09/2008 13:52

I ended up watching some Bloomberg yesterday evening - now that was weird.

bossykate · 18/09/2008 13:56

i think he's great. although i did laugh at his gurning during his turn on the 10 o'clock news last night.

Ronaldinhio · 18/09/2008 14:13

i
love
him

bundle · 18/09/2008 14:40

swedes,
he might have had a brilliant day,the rest of us had to suffer

Upwind · 18/09/2008 14:56

Bundle, isn't just shooting the messenger though? Peston and Evan Davies before him have at least been honest about the vulnerabilities in the UK economy. Unlike the hacks of a couple of broadsheet newspapers who have been cheerleaders of the unsustainable boom.

There is a really funny take on that here

Countingthegreyhairs · 18/09/2008 15:03

Bring back Evan Davis!!!!

Robert Peston's deliberately wierd delivery distracts from the content of what he is reporting and so it becomes all about him instead somehow ...

And as others have said, he fancies himself rotten. I turn over as soon as he come on.

HuwEdwards · 18/09/2008 15:05

oh me too, he's like a ventriloquist's dummy!

I think he's good pre-recorded but terrible live...weird emphasis and pauses. I think he looks like I imagine Robert Brown (Just William's older brother) must have looked with the parting and hair oil (not brylcream) & those pin-striped suits

Threadwworm · 18/09/2008 15:19

I think Robert Peston is really good. But ... I WANT EVAN. The credit cruncjh is no fun without his pixie presence, and yes I know he is on the radio, but you can't see his twinkly face on the radio.

dinny · 18/09/2008 15:31

he's an amzing journalist (Peston) but I miss Evan! he is sooooos smiley and so courteous and scrummy

bundle · 18/09/2008 16:13

no, upwind

I'm not talking about the suffering of those directly impacted by the credit crunch or any subsequent takeovers/bankruptcies

I'm talking about Peston's inability to speak properly

ahem

I'm sure he was fine, in print

Soprana · 18/09/2008 17:25

Does anyone else get the impression he's.. well.. enjoying all of this a little too much???

greenandpleasant · 18/09/2008 17:32

to be fair to him, he is probably enjoying it all - very exciting times from his point of view! but he does smirk a bit too much in a "told you so" sort of way. I admire him but not his delivery.

OMaLittle · 18/09/2008 17:36

Slightly off-topic but does anyone else think Paxo is seriously out of his depth on all this stuff? The other night he tried to laugh at Diane Choyleva for suggesting lax monetary policy/Greenspan might have played a part in inflating asset bubbles .

DarrellRivers · 18/09/2008 17:39

When I read this thread title, i thought
'hmm, who is Robert Peston, I bet it is that man who is TV all the time now and moves his hands too much'
And what do you know, I was right

Upwind · 18/09/2008 17:40

Agree Omalittle, Paxo seems well out of his depth - it was like he just couldn't grasp the points Diane Choyleva was making.

I really don't like it that a competent professional like Peston is getting so much stick here re. his delivery - would people seriously rather a professional presenter with little understanding took on his role, and read from an autocue? I prefer hearing it from Peston himself, idiosyncratic delivery and all.

WendyWeber · 18/09/2008 17:40

Any chance Robert might see all these delightfully helpful & constructive comments & do something about his presentational deficiencies?

(Do TV presenters/journos bother to google themselves or are they too busy being important? Or do they get a minion to google for them)

DarrellRivers · 18/09/2008 17:43

No stick from me, he does move his hands a lot

MyNameIsRobertPeston · 18/09/2008 18:03

I
can't
BELIEVE
you
are making
FUN
of
the way
I TALK

greenandpleasant · 18/09/2008 18:31

Upwind, see it as the equivalent of a bit of teasing. Noone here is saying they think he's rubbish at what he does, but Peston himself admits that his delivery is not the best, that he has had a lot of help and still has a way to go. Given that his job is to communicate, delivery and presentation are important as well as his insights and knowledge.
