i do think banks should have been trying to work out their exposure to lehman long before now. as i said below there have been whispers about it for a long time.

Assuming the worst - it might be best to seek financial advice now. Check if you have any insurance that will help, what happens if you can't make mortgage payments etc. If you need advice, maybe it would be worth starting a new thread here or on moneysavingexpert.com

I also might be joining you very soon as my DH's job looks very precarious after this news and I am not working either.

my sisters hubby was made redundant last week - hes in the it sector. He started sending out feelers and networking the next day and hopefully something will come of that.

I think a lot of workers a Lehmans had a stash of share options built up over years - and will now have lost every penny of them!

For the ordinary worker to lose your life savings over night (perhaps your retirement pot) must be awful

XP has lost his savings (ex Lehmann and was paid off in share options) so it's a major blow for us, but that is nothing compared with what you're facing. Agree with BK - xp has been talking about this happening for months - why wasn't something done?

As said on the other thread, I am v worried too - Dh doesn't work for Lehmans but for long, boring reasons his job is very linked to them as are a major portion of our savings and I am very worried.

I called him earlier and he is in and out of meetings and wasn't able to tell me anything reassuring.

He's worked so hard and is so good at his job, it would be gutting if it all goes wrong now.

I am . I hate uncertainty.

Can I add IF ANYONE WANTS TO DO BANKER SLAGGING OFF (i.e. oh well these types deserved this type comments made by a minority on here) PLEASE CAN YOU GO AND DO IT ON ANOTHER THREAD ELSEWHERE. Some of us are very worried here and don't need a discussion of this kind right now, regardless of whether it has merits or not.
