Fingers crossed for you, Aero and your dh.

DoubleBluff · 14/09/2008 22:47

Bro in law works fpr them too.
All very worrying.

onceinalifetime · 14/09/2008 22:51

"Once in a half century" just wish it wasn't in my half century. Doom, doom, doom, may have to name change at this rate. Crikey, what next?

Tinker · 14/09/2008 22:53

Once in a half century means it'll happen once in a lifetime for most people then. Aptly named there onceinalifetime

Tinker - I know, I might need to change to 'notinmylifetimethanks'.

Aero - fingers crossed, not looking good though, next 24 hours will be crucial it seems.

Aero · 14/09/2008 23:02

Thanks everyone. I can't believe this is happening.

We don't have savings. How on earth will we manage? How long will the lenders give you if you can't pay the mortgage? Apart from the really important stuff (cost of living), ds's school trip is to be paid this month - what do we tell him if the doors are locked in the morning? Oh God.......[no emoticon for this one]

This is very real - I am very scared, yet there nothig whatsoever we can do..........

zippitippitoes · 14/09/2008 23:05

i started this thread thinking of widespread stuff

but what happens for you i dont know

arte you in the uk

Aero · 14/09/2008 23:10

Yes - dh commutes to London.

pointydog · 14/09/2008 23:11

The banks have behaved like arseholes in recent years.

I feel deperately sorry for the individuals who will suffer from their arrogant carelessness and complete lack of accountabiity to the people who matter.

onceinalifetime · 14/09/2008 23:13

Aero, what does dh do? Assume as he was at PWC, he's not a banker?

Aero · 14/09/2008 23:20

Not a w banker (he said that - (obvs feeling very peeved off with bankers).
He's a category manager (whatever that means).

Gingerbear · 14/09/2008 23:25

Oh, Aero

onceinalifetime · 14/09/2008 23:32

Aero, I don't know what that is either! Can only say that if he worked at PWC, he is presumably employable elsewhere unlike many of my Merrill Lynch colleagues who couldn't breathe without the oxygen of investment banking

Aero · 15/09/2008 00:00

Yes, from that pov, he is very employable, so for that we are thankful. It's just the worry of the interim period. I'm a SAHM, so no other income to fall back on.

Honestly - there's been an unhealthy amount of watching Bloomberg news channel this weekend. Very depressing.

Earlybird · 15/09/2008 02:28

Yes Aero, me too. I dread to think what will happen this week in the financial markets as so many of the big institutions are in dire straits.

I fear if Lehman goes down, the domino effect in our economy and around the world will be frightening and potentially catastrophic.

Sorry to be so gloomy.

arfishy · 15/09/2008 02:45

What do you think the fall out will be for the man on the street?

Ready4anotherCoffee · 15/09/2008 02:51

Aero

I think the next year or so is going to be rather tight. very scarey to think about, makes me very relieved we rent.

Tbh, i think most of us have seen this coming, so why have the government, and all these banks not?

drowninginlaundry · 15/09/2008 06:35

Aero how awful, fingers crossed for you

I used to work at Lehman, before becoming a SAHM, still know some people there. Horrible for those with families. DH is at another bank and everyone including him is worried for their jobs. If he loses his I don't know what we'll do!

Nighbynight · 15/09/2008 07:07

well I worked for a company that was done over bought by them some years ago and all I can say is ha ha what goes around comes around.
pity that the big cheeses are probably saving themselves unlike the ordinary workers.

Hassled · 15/09/2008 07:23

Thinking of you Aero

HarrietTheSpy · 15/09/2008 07:25

Same here!

sweetgrapes · 15/09/2008 07:55

So sorry Aero...

Read this thread last night and was up half the night worried.
It's kind of - who's next??

NightbyNight - one part of me def thinks 'serves you right' - but on the other hand the effect will be everywhere.
