Wow! Think she must be mad personally (I mean ...18...really...why?!) but good luck to them. They do look happy in the photo.

TwoIfBySea · 31/07/2008 00:27

Ouch, is all I can say and then I see that...

"Despite being British Columbia?s most prolific mother in the past 20 years, Livia Ionce has some way to go to match the feats of an 18th century woman known only as the "the wife of Feodor Vassilyev" who earned a place in the Guinness Book of Records by giving birth to 69 children from 27 pregnancies."

The poor woman doesn't even get her own name mentioned for having 69 children.

expatinscotland · 31/07/2008 00:29

she's probably got such a 'bucket crouch' her husband can just point it at her, ejaculate from the outside and still impregnate her.

probably saves him having to strap a board to his arse.

Sazisi · 31/07/2008 00:31

wtf's a bucket crouch

expatinscotland · 31/07/2008 00:33

sorry! i saw a few old-timers here and it's late at night.

there was once an incediary poster on this board who started a thread about how MNers are all cows with 'bucket crouches'.

LynetteScavo · 31/07/2008 00:34

When you get to 18, when do you stop? Menopause?

Can you imagine thier weekly food shop?

LynetteScavo · 31/07/2008 00:35

I'm just a cow.

My fanjo is very tight.

TwoIfBySea · 31/07/2008 00:35

Bucket crouch?

I don't even want to imagine, oh, too late. Have never heard that expression before!

thingamajig · 31/07/2008 00:36

crouches or crotches, expat?

expatinscotland · 31/07/2008 00:37

she meant crotch, but she wasn't the most educated of posters.

Sazisi · 31/07/2008 00:37

Oh, I see

TwoIfBySea · 31/07/2008 00:39

sneaks away as I try and mentally erase what I thought the crouch part meant. Right area, wrong image.

solo · 31/07/2008 00:40

Bucket crouch? or crotch? lol. sorry! tickled me

elkiedee · 31/07/2008 00:40

I read a memoir by a 1950s midwife working in the East End who was called out to deliver a 24th child - she thought that a colleague must have made a mistake writing 24 instead of 14.

slug · 31/07/2008 14:57

My mother gave birth 13 times (all singletons) and had 5 miscarriages, so she's not far off that record.

RedHead81 · 31/07/2008 15:01

i read that book - call the midwife - was excellent, especially the mother's 24th baby - very prem born and survived through warmth of mothers breast and loving perseverence of mother breastfeeding every 30mins - to think they didn't even know it was alive!

PinkTulips · 31/07/2008 15:07

there was a family living in the row behind us in dublin who had 24 kids. not sure if they all had the same mother though as we didn't know the family

a guy i went to college with was one of 14 and his mother took in foster kids aswell.

PinkTulips · 31/07/2008 15:12

the mind boggles at the women mentioned who had 69 and 55 kids though..... i mean surely your body gives up at some point?

TwoIfBySea · 31/07/2008 17:09

So with at least 27 pregnancies she would have spent nearly 30 years pregnant - sometimes with multiples too.

TinkerBellesMum · 31/07/2008 17:32

Apparently your body can think that pregnancy is normal and seek it out. In the NNU that looked after Tink there is a set of photos of quads. They were IVF and the mother was pregnant before she was home. The NNU staff tell me it's not uncommon.

I guess these women can't be breastfeeding to be having so many children so close together though?

It's amazing in our modern hi-tec world to think that actually nature has provided us with the means to look after premature babies. The mothers chest is kept a couple of degrees hotter than the rest of her body. When you put a baby on the chest it either cools mum down or warms her up. The body responds by putting the chest back to the right temperature - so cooling down a hot baby or warming up a cool baby. Babies can lick before they can suckle so a mother can breastfeed by expressing a little baby to lick off... It's a fascinating subject!

handlemecarefully · 31/07/2008 17:54

She looks far far older than 44 - is there any wonder!

PinkTulips · 31/07/2008 18:52

TIBS according to my calculations that's 2.5 kids per pregnancy so most likely twins or triplets every time.... she must have had the busiest ovaries known to man

tink, i thought by law they weren't allowed to implant more than 2 embyros over in england?
