Have a hazy memory of this story being dicussed on here - or am I just dreaming MN stories now?

I can provide an address if anyone wants to stalk them

On a different note, if Mumsnet are the Publishers, and have to take responsibility (a la GF, etc), and IF DM got their idea from cod's thread, then haven't DM in fact infringed Mumsnet's Copyright?

Ledodgy · 22/07/2008 14:54

OMG it's made the LA Times! here

Well I don't think we can assume that the Mail story is made up just because Cod's one was, can we? I mean a lot of people fell for Cod's story precisely because it was so feasible.

Mind you the thought that the Mail have a bunch of Glenn Close lookalikes pouring over Mumsnet ready to enact any bizarre "real life" story for their pages (with Tesco involved in the conspiracy for good measure) is, I fully admit, a very diverting one. So let's stick with that story until proved otherwise?

perhaps ypou are pyschic cod. Now, think of 6 numbers please....

Remotew · 22/07/2008 15:10

Tesco have apologised with £100 but did anyone actually see the condoms on her list. The article mentioned that they were deleted next time she looked. Something very fishy going on, pardon the pun.

EffiePerine · 22/07/2008 15:10

it is a slow news period tho... maybe there was a shortage of stories on evil working mothers?

Ledodgy · 22/07/2008 15:11

Yes and her 'friend' said they were on hers too but no-one other thatn her 'friend' has come forward to say it was on their list.

giraffescantdancethetango · 22/07/2008 15:26

Can't believe its in so many papers - WHO CARES that some random couple almost split up??

UnquietDad · 22/07/2008 15:31

I know the Mail has a bank of photos/ set of models ready to pose for stories.

I remember when my parents used to buy it I saw the same woman turning up within a matter of weeks as both "Driven working mum Vanessa, 33, who leaves her kids with Virtual Strangers 10 hours a day" and "Natasha, 34, who was hounded out of her top lawyer job by immigrant sex pest." (I don't quote exactly, but you get the idea).

Given time, I expect she would also have turned up as "Disgusted mum Emma, 35, who says her 10-year-old is being given Gay Lessons."

Heated · 22/07/2008 15:32

Blimey, just come back to this! Knew there was a reason why the MN thread stuck in my mind but didn't realise there was a fishy reason behind it.

I see champagne and chocolates went AWOL(or did Cod get those in payment for selling the story?)

'can't believe it has made so many papers': that is what is known as Summer Holiday Journalism (ie ripping off everyone else's stories because they have nothing else to fill with).

My Dh was in a story in the Independent once. Now when he googles himself his quotes turn up in Chile. And Indonesia. All over.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 22/07/2008 15:44

Fantastic! I saw the start of that thread but missed it all kicking off.

I agree with Unquiet Dad about the DM bank of models, they all loook like the women off the Sweeney in that Squeeze song "funny how the missis always looks the bleeding same".

Love their concerned expressions and the open laptop.
