Road tax increase - will yours be more?

Not even sure what ours will be - we have an older BMW, don't think they do the same model any more! We don't currently come under their A-G rating, presumably as our car is over 10 years old.

would you change your car because of it though?

I think mine's going up, but no I won't be changing my car.

paddington look on your v5 log book at the emmisions. then go here or here to work out the tax based on the emissions.

ours will be going up from £210 to £260 a year which isnt too bad i suppose. we have a 1.8 zafira.

am thinking of selling mpv and buying 2 smaller cars to cut tax but would mean taking 2 cars when we go out on family journeys

oh dear I don't think our emissions will be great! We pay £200 pa currently. We don't actually drive the car that much - it stays on the drive most of the week- but can't really get rid of it completely as our families live away and it's not that easy by train.
If we were to change the car though, I don't think we'd get that much for it and then would need a loan for another!

checked on parkers website - they say our tax will stay at £200 pa as it's still on the old rules, based on engine size.

Oh great. Looks as if we will have to pay MORE because we can only afford an old car, pre-2001. So the poorer you are, the more you have to pay? Madness. If we had the same model, post-2001, we'd be paying £150 less!

no edam, it's the other way round - if your car is pre-2001 it's exempt from the new rules. DH's car is (just) pre-2001 and we're breathing a huge sigh of relief tbh.

yes I suspect if we bought a similar model but newer, we'd pay less too. Not that we could afford the newer model! If we bought newer we'd change the make/model completely.

Mine's a 2002 diesel Zafira, mine goes up from £170 to £205 then £210.

DH's is a 1999 Corolla diesel so his is too old for the changes (but his tax was more than mine before)

I bought it new when I was single and had money for new cars, just as I was thinking of getting rid of it the kiddies came along. Then everytime I think I might change it, it passes its MOT. So all it costs me is insurance petrol and car tax.

Can someone tell me what my car tax will be or as its a pre-2001 car will it stay at the £120 I pay at the moment? In which case I'll hang on to it a while longer

I'm self employed so tend to park round the corner when I first visit a potential client . Then when I get the work I park where I like!

It will stay the same for now, but before this new scheme road tax always went up a bit every year, so I would guess it still will.

Mine will go up, as will DH's.

It wont make us change our cars though and probably wont make us drive any less.

Well DH will be getting a company car this year and on the list is the new Focus Econetic, which will sneak us into band B at £35 a year. Could never afford to buy one outright though.

when (if!) we do get another car though, if it's post 2001 we will check the tax band. My friend didn't do this, and ended up paying the same for her 1.4 daewoo as we pay for our older 2.3 BMW!
