well my understanding of a suspended sentence is that the sentence is set aside and the guilty party is basically placed on probabtion for a period of time (i'm not sure if it's a set period or if it's at the descretion of the courts in england) and if the guilty party (barton) is convicted of another offence in that period he may be sentenced for the original offence also.
is that accurate?
and i do believe more time in jail would serve to make him less violent as it would show him he is accountable for his actions seeing as he has not learned from past mistakes (putting a cigar out in a youth team players eye, assaulting his team mates) where he has not served time.

I'm amazed he got off so lightly when he's a repeat offender. Judge said something about some anger management programme he's on. Only it's not an anger management programme for ordinary people, oh no, this is a special one for special footballers.

a supended sentence is a PRETTY harsh sentence9 not as bad as cutody0 but fo folk who find prion relatively palinless its a good way of combining the threat of prison wiht some work rehabilitating or tryint to work out WHy the offending occurs and stoping it

there is normally ONE hefty probation condition( most likely a curfew - has to be for under 6 months) or like in a sex offender case a LONG LONG arduous probation requirement.

if they breach it EVEN once then they t eh seupended sentence is activated and off they trot, no reports no nothing - we had one guy who turned up to what he thought was a breach hearing adn then an hour later was int eh van off to prison.

there is NO work done wiht short term sentencees in prison. NONE and no pronbation after " care" at all
so 6 months minus a guilty plea is 4 months
then out on licence so you are talking weeks.

until the GMT puts more ££ into prison nothign will change tbh

i think it's quite clear why this violent young man keeps offending.
he's a millionaire who from an early age has been told he is special because he is an extremely gifted athlete. he has been allowed to be violent towards others and the worst punishment he had received before this prison sentence was to be sold by his club which in truth earned him a pay rise and a signing on fee in the region of a million pounds.
no wonder he thinks he is above the law.

Nothing has chaged has it? they may now have hsouing adn job issues - have lost their family so yes they deserve to be punished but if the aim of prison is to reform we are doign a pretty bad job

He was found guilty.

He was sentenced.

Once that sentence has been carried out, he has served his time and should be allowed to carry on his life.
