In my opinion, they've worked for their money and earned it so let them spend what they want. Their day. 64 guests I believe who have all been flown out by private jet. Civil Service this morning following by the blessing either today or tomorrow.

I think most people live to their means. Yes, the average wedding costs £25,000 these days but if I could have flown all my guests somewhere, put them up and given them all the luxuries in the world, I would have.

As you say though, this really isn't news.

Aaah leave em alone, they might not have taste and style, and it might not be the way you'd do it but they're in luurrvvve

hayley2u · 12/06/2008 18:27

ar i had to laugh on the radio when it said the decided on a hot sunny wedding but replaced by heavy rain, lol, poor colleen as least she got out of liverpool even if it was nicer here than there

cocolepew · 12/06/2008 18:34

The ad for the News At Ten, the other night, had W & C in Italy, preparing for the wedding, as the main item. The same day 3 soliders were killed in Afghanistan. No wonder they're being beaten in the ratings by the BBC.

NotABanana · 12/06/2008 18:37

I'm not sure the celeb guests are worth £5million.

TheDullWitch · 12/06/2008 18:55

I was reading a story which said average British wedding is now £20K ffs! And the wedding industry was blaming it on the celeb weddings and how everyone wants the big hen/stag, huge ring, designer dress, themed reception etc just like they ve seen in OK.

What a huge waste of money!

zog · 12/06/2008 19:01

'Guests have gone for high-octane glamour, and Coleen is rumoured to have funded several of them to the tune of £25,000 to avoid 'chaviness''

Priceless - what a waste of money

NomDePlume · 12/06/2008 19:01

I can't get worked up about it all, tbh.

They may not be the most beautiful or scintilating couple in the world but I imagine it is v rare to find a premiership footballer (especially one so young) marrying his high school girlfriend.

It doesn't matter how much of their own money they forked out, I couldn't give a toss. As for the rain, well no-one can control the weather, no matter how big the budget.

Great article from CNN here

Who cares what it costs, they have the money.

They also have donated to a charity and asked not for presents but for their guests to donate to another one.

They are not bad people.

I don't understand all the resentment - All the best to them, a wet bride is a lucky bride, don't they say?

Yeah, what's wrong with a brown suit? My husband wore a brown suit for our wedding. And it was from River Island, and I think he looked scrummy.

Gutted for Colleen though, you have a wedding in Italy in June and expect it to be gorgeous. I think it was great that she paid for friends and family to get dressed up, bit bridezillerish, but at least she foot the bill. Wish my friends would pay for me to have a new outfit for their weddings .

ssd · 14/06/2008 09:44

there are too may small minded snobs on this thread, who are you lot kidding?

cupsoftea · 14/06/2008 09:48

what a fab day - if you've got the money why not spend it - who cares if it rains!

theBOD · 15/06/2008 17:48

i don't get the hatred of celebs. the two of them have earned their money and decided to spend a portion of their fortune on their wedding (around one years wages for him give or take).
more power to them in my opinion. they can spend it all on penny sweets and clothes for their dogs for all i care as it's their money.

bluefox · 15/06/2008 18:05

Please dont say that either of them have actually 'earned' their wealth.

theBOD · 15/06/2008 22:17

"Please dont say that either of them have actually 'earned' their wealth"

could you please explain to me in what way they haven't?

WendyWeber · 15/06/2008 22:37

I think they are really sweet. I love the way Coleen dotes on her sister, and asking for donations from guests to Alder Hey, and donating half (?) of the OK/Hello (?) money themselves, is a lot more than most footballers/wives/other "celebrities" have ever done to my knowledge.

The Peter Phillips wedding being sold because the bride's family couldn't pay for it and Princess Anne wouldn't pay for it got up my nose considerably more

ScottishMummy · 15/06/2008 22:58

obviously shrek and fiona are selling brand rooney and coining it in whilst they can. awww schlebs heh

LuckySalem · 15/06/2008 23:02

Why did she have 3 wedding dresses?

ScottishMummy · 15/06/2008 23:07

scared of spilling her bacardi breezer or chips n curry sauce?

ssd · 16/06/2008 13:27

claws out Scottishmummy?

bit jealous are we?

ScottishMummy · 16/06/2008 13:52

oh calm down.dont get ina fankle all you rooney lovers.my well manicured nails remain static.i would be delighted to drink bacardi breezer and eat curry chips - wedding or not! just take care not to spill owt

pagwatch · 16/06/2008 13:57

Actually the donatiuons to charity irked me more than anything else.
To spend £5 million and then ask guest to donate is a really easy way to get some good press - and if you are really charity minded why not spend a paltry £1 million and donate the rest.

Or better still spend £5 million, accept the loot from your 300 best friends and just shut the fuck up.

People telling the press about charity contributions, unless it is made public for fundraising reasons, always seems really cheap to me.
