Does anyone know where Lupin was this weekend?😁

That was where my mind went, too.

Sourisblanche · 19/10/2025 17:25

J’ai un alibi 😉

Mais c’est incroyable! En plein jour…😳

SomeHorse · 19/10/2025 17:28

Well, the end of Red Notice had the Rock, Ryan Gosling and Gal Gadot outside the Louvre all set for a sequel that involved a jewel heist.

Somnambule · 19/10/2025 17:33

You e got to admire a good heist. Chapeau to them.

soupyspoon · 19/10/2025 17:44

A ladder!!!!

Doh!

Why didnt I think of this!

I was looking for the exact time and found it: 9:30 am, when the museum had been open to the public for half an hour already! Did the thieves want to blend in with the crowd to make their getaway? How could they risk such a heist knowing that anyone could walk in to the gallery while they were robbing it? It makes sense only if they had someone already on the inside put up a 'temporarily closed for cleaning' sign at the entrance to that particular gallery.

I assumed when closed. Do not worry! Am on the case :) NB: user name.

PinkPanther57 · 19/10/2025 18:56

I wonder if effectively much more security when closed so a ‘plain sight’ approach much smarter/easier?

Surely there were witnesses?

ReceiveIt · 19/10/2025 19:05

I love a good heist! A bit disappointed it didnt involve disguises, laser beams, code names, and a bespectacled genius coordinating things from afar.

Good old fashioned ladder and a hammer. I wonder what they'll do with them.

Makes you wonder what they are going to do with what they’ve taken.

They can hardly start flogging it off.

Oligarch buyers perhaps?

Will they be caught? Just seen the chap in high vis vest smashing open the cabinet. Someone filmed. Presumably they’ll have him on CCTV (?)

Posing as construction workers apparently.

May yet be an evil genius in a lair involved. :)

Hurumphh · 19/10/2025 19:22

Mon dieu! A mechanical ladder, a scooter getaway and a dropped crown - it’s all quite comical 😂

soupyspoon · 19/10/2025 19:28

I think its a piece of performance art from those Frankish Frenchies and its being played out across the world and we're all part of it now.

The Louvre directors came up with the wheeze in order to drum up interest I think.

TheCowgirl · 19/10/2025 20:03

Reminds me of that Spider-Man of Paris guy who took the paintings from the Paris Museum of Modern Art (documentary on Netflix).

My first thought too!

I also think it must be an inside job, it seems unbelievable. It is funny though, i know someone now will pay extortionate amounts for them and they'll sit in some private vault somewhere, but I really don't understand why. Even if I had billions I wouldn't want to buy them.

I think they’ll be melted down and the jewels sold separately to the metal.

EasternStandard · 20/10/2025 08:32

OnlyOnAFriday · 19/10/2025 16:55

Sounds like they didn’t care if anyone saw them. In and out in 7 mins, they put a hydraulic type ladder on the back of a truck up to a window and smashed the window (I assume from the outside). Had some sort of disc cutter/small chain saws…if I was a tourist i wouldn’t be tackling them!

The crown was thrown from a window and smashed on the ground outside.

Edited

7 minutes seems like long enough for police to turn up if alerted. Not sure why they were able to do it all successfully but I haven’t read up on it at all.

They won't sell them as they are. They'll melt them down and sell the gold and silver, possibly as ingots.

You’d imagine, especially given the gallery open, there was an in house security team?

ImSoJulia · 21/10/2025 22:32

Inside job to order. They'll all be broken up by now. Poor France.

You wouldn't get this with the Crown Jewels.

PinkPanther57 · 21/10/2025 22:44

Has there been any update on this ?

KnickerlessParsons · 21/10/2025 22:55

No.

SkiAndTravelTheWorldWithMyDog · 21/10/2025 23:31

I know I shouldn't but I'm actually quite impressed with their chutzpah and I secretly want them to get away with it, even though I know it is wrong.

PinkPanther57 · 21/10/2025 23:37

Was it a clever move to execute during open hours as security much tighter at night?

I feel a bit like that about the planes that went into the twin towers.
Horribly evil act, but fantastically project managed. I saw a programme about it - all the men flying the planes first had to learn to fly. The actual act was years in the making.

Due to the loss of life & unspeakable tragedy can’t compare.
