aah was following your holiday thread at one stage last week and wondered what footie he was worried about

scottish fans make me lol. I once got cornered by a drunk Kilmarnock fan at a wedding and by the time the wedding was over, I had a place to stay and guaranteed drinks all night if I came to watch the Killies play (long past are my days when men were after a shag).

Just thought you might like to know that today is St Boris's day

(so it said on the chalkboard outside my local florist)

Gawd, the Lib Dems have done badly nationwide. WHEN will they learn to run a council?

Not in or from London, but do think that ken made a mistake re-joining the Labout party. I am sure that he would have been more successful as an Independent and wouldn't have got coaught in the anti-Brown/Labour backlash.

Boris is SO bad that the Guardian actually stuck their neck out yesterday and nailed their colours firmly to the mast with their G2 lead feature.

here

Never seen them come out that firmly on one side or t'other.

Hope it prompted some people to vote.

I feel physically SICK at the thought of Boris as Mayor - or ant tory - but I am also really angry with Livingstone.

I have spent all morning in Brixton with organisations in the same sector as Jaspers fraudulent Brixton Base project. How could Ken have continued to defend Jasper? It shows total contempt for the people of London who can SEE - because they work right by the building or in the same sector - that Brixton Base did NO activities etc etc etc. And the sector most damaged is the black business sector, who feel that Jasper co-poted areas such as Brixton as his personal fiefdom in which to weild power for power's sake.

I have been working towards a development with spotential support from the LDA - if Ken loses this election 5 years of my work will eveporate - and ken let that happen with his stupid stance, and misguided loyalty on the basis of faux anti-racism.

But Boris would be a terrible blot on the landscape and Paddick pointless.

I have not felt so depressed about politics since that dreadful bleak dawn when I woke to hear my downstairs neighbours weeping in the garden because Major was in...the last time the tories got in.

I don't know, there was a big anti ken backlash too.... especially from the west london cc extension haters (lots of those out there...). Not sure independance would have saved him (assume he has actually lost, not yet confirmed...)

orangina · 02/05/2008 13:56

know how you feel re: depressed at the whole business blu... I spent half of my day yesterday on here saying what shall i do, boris or ken? hate them both. boris or ken? hate them both....
how did we end up with such a rubbish selection of people to choose from?

Blu · 02/05/2008 14:00

well quite - peach position, how come all the candidates were so crap?

I mean even the Green party could have sported someone more credible than her? No political weight, and much as I might rant about urban 4x4s I really think an entire campaihgn directed at them is student politics.

Left List etc were touting issues which are hardly in the remit of the mayor anyway...and the rest were nutters.

Where are the GOOD people??

Report
foxinsocks · 02/05/2008 14:00

well if Ken loses, he has only himself to blame. I don't think the Labour party backlash has much to do with it. He's never associated himself that closely with them at all (and vice versa!). The corruption, the cronyism and the pissing off of W/SW London (and let's face it - we get good voter turnout our side).

That turnout (45%) is the highest they've had - first time more than 2 million have voted in the London elections.

The thing about London is that it IS such a hugely mixed, multicultural city, and having a posh elitist like Johnson at the helm is going to be a fucking disaster in terms of racial and religious relations

I feel the need to get drunk for 4 years

I am starting to feel sick at the thought of a Tory win at the next general election

Report
motherinferior · 02/05/2008 14:05

I do agree, FIS. Ken is loathsome. And I say that as someone who would rather have him than Boris.
