I think you'll find that what Boris intends to do is keep being an MP until the next election, to avoid forcing a by-election in his constituency.

Which is exactly what Ken did when he was elected in 2000 - he stayed on as the Brent East MP after he was elected as mayor, and then stood down at the next election.

fox, no he's not significantly better. The recent financial scandals associated with Lee Jasper were a disgrace and I don't like the man's public persona much tbh
But, he has done a lot of good things for London as a whole. Boris does not have much of relevant substance in comparison.
I can see why people see the W London Congestion Charge as a punitive measure and I think Ken is going to rue the day he implemented it in the teeth of the consultation results

There must be Tories out there who might be able to cobble together an application to be Mayor based on experience and skills (Chris Patten for example) but Boris would be straight in the circular file in any normal recruitment process

But marina, nobody has anything of substance compared to Ken purely because Ken has been around so long. Can you remember how awful Frank Dobson appeared? I also think they should have come up with another Labour candidate but of course, they haven't got one!
