Hi,

I know there has been lots of chat around this and I have to avoid the news because it sends my anxiety over the edge, does anyone have a overwhelming feat that nuclear war is about to kick off 🫣

OP posts:

As a teenager in the 1980s, I worried all the time about nuclear war. I'm not spending my fifties doing the same , despite my news junkie status. What will be, will be. I won't be digging a bunker to survive the first wave.

I think some younger folk don't realise what the cold war was like, especially for some folk.

Sarah2891 · 29/09/2024 10:29

Not at all. It's not worth even thinking about.

Andtheworldwentwhite · 29/09/2024 10:34

I actually mentioned things to my husband the other day. And I’m not someone who thinks about this type of stuff. It wasn’t world war three it was more it all kicking off badly over there that what would that do to trading. I don’t think world war. But things i think are going to get worse.

Browneyeshadow · 29/09/2024 10:38

Are you not bothered about terrorists currently or just the phantom of world war 3?

ThatMakesSense · 29/09/2024 11:13

No. Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a present.

NewUser1111 · 29/09/2024 11:17

Honestly avoiding the news and therefore making yourself more ignorant won’t do anything to help your anxiety. People are always more scared of things they don’t understand. (I say this as someone who struggles with anxiety, so I do understand- but really feel the burying your head in the sand approach is wrong)

SerenityNowInsanityLater · 29/09/2024 11:18

I’m not at all afraid. But I’m angry at the sociopaths pushing us into world war 3. I feel angry on behalf of my children who deserve a better world than the one we’re living in. That said, humans have exceeded their sell-by date and we truly are the architects of exactly what we deserve: Our end. We’re no longer fit for purpose.

SerenityNowInsanityLater · 29/09/2024 11:23

Sorry to not type what you needed to hear OP. Honestly though, all there is is now. Try and occupy that space. It takes effort to do so. You can still be angry about and engaged in the world and its geopolitical failures while sitting with ‘now’. You can be at peace while being engaged in the world. Both these things can be true at once. Just know when to step back and step into silence.

Everything is fate. We can only control what we can control.

NewGreenDuck · 29/09/2024 11:26

I'm 68, I spent most of my childhood being told the world might end. The Doomsday clock went closer to midnight and then returned to its former position so many times. I've realised that we can do nothing about it. At least I'll be with my loved ones if the worst happens.

Emmanuelll · 29/09/2024 12:29

If anything, nuclear weapons help to keep the status quo. As weird as that is.

SoNiceToComeHomeTo · 29/09/2024 12:30

Yes. I'm also very scared about the environmental crisis.

Happyinarcon · 29/09/2024 12:51

No. Turn off tv and go do something fun

Edingril · 29/09/2024 12:53

Not much we can do about it so why worry, will worrying stop it?

MoneyNeverSleeps · 29/09/2024 12:54

Absolutely not.

Ask yourself why/how it would start and by who?

Rationalise it, be logical.

LastTrainEast · 29/09/2024 13:18

I don't believe we would have a nuclear war. Every leader knows that everyone loses if that starts.

Perhaps Putin could be just crazy enough, but you can bet his advisors have a plan for that. If he tried to launch an attack I think he would find himself in a quiet room somewhere signing his resignation letter.

Conventional wars will carry on. but they are all played out at a distance now in some country most of us would struggle to find on a map.

Putin can't attack the UK directly as that would require NATO to attack him which would be just as disastrous for him

Igotjelly · 29/09/2024 13:37

For those fearful I would avoid the news and instead look at longer reads/listens from genuine experts.

On the recent Russian rhetoric the latest episode of the In Moscow’s Shadow podcast by expert Mark Galeotti discusses the recent bluff and bluster, including doctrinal changes and is very interesting.

Underlig · 29/09/2024 13:38

No

BlackShuck3 · 29/09/2024 13:39

I'm not worried, I can't wait to see what happens in November, it's going to be hilarious if trump gets back in 🤣😁😬😱🤪

Surroundedbyfools · 29/09/2024 14:01

No. Tbh I’ve got enough on my plate on a daily basis never mind worrying about something so far out of my control !

GrizzLee · 29/09/2024 14:17

ThisTimeNextWeekDavid · 29/09/2024 09:30

No. And if it does, we’ll all be dead so it won’t matter.

This. So there’s no point in worrying about it.
The current Middle East situation is awful though, so much unnecessary death and destruction. Now that is something to worry about, in terms of bloody awful human suffering.

HawkersSouth · 29/09/2024 14:18

No, I don't worry about. Nothing I can do if it happens but honestly I don't think it will happen.

DillDanding · 29/09/2024 14:19

I don’t worry about it at all.

We’ll all be annihilated if it happens, so 🤷‍♀️

Emmanuelll · 29/09/2024 14:58

BlackShuck3 · 29/09/2024 13:39

Women losing their reproductive rights and white supremacists running America - yeah fucking hilarious(!) what a stupid post.

drivinmecrazy · 29/09/2024 15:17

I'm not in the least bit concerned about an all out nuclear war.

But I am fearful of the use of strategic nukes that can decimate a town.

I think there's a real possibility that these smaller nukes will be used in some capacity over the next few months. Likely inevitable.

If you look at the nations involved in conflict currently, many of them have this capacity.

Sadly this hopefully won't affect us directly, but I do believe the world is going to be a changed place.

And that's without taking into consideration of the ever growing use of cyber attacks.

We're living in a huge Willy waving period that makes the Cold War look like a comic book.

drivinmecrazy · 29/09/2024 15:19

Just to be clear, I think nuclear annihilation is absolutely not going to happen.
