Oh no, what horrible news, I so hoped he was just having some time out. My children really liked him (apart from ds2 who was scared of big picture, little picture). So sad. What a tragic chain of events.

CrackerOfNuts · 13/04/2008 17:25

Oh, how awful.

Just found a pic I had took with him when I was about 16, such a nice bloke.

Sad
edam · 13/04/2008 17:50

Oh that is so very sad. He was brilliant on Smart. So tragic that it ended like this.

belgo · 13/04/2008 17:50

very sad.

NotABanana · 13/04/2008 17:53

I had never heard of him until his fiance died.

I always thought people who committed suicide (If he has) were selfish but tbh I can understand that he felt he couldn't go on without Natasha and with what had happened. He must have felt partly responsible.

So so

I read the body was "believed" to be him. Has it been confirmed it definitely is?

MaureenMLove · 13/04/2008 17:56

That Sky News report says police have confirmed it and next of kin informed.

southeastastra · 13/04/2008 18:02

oh no how tragic

MissPaulaYates · 13/04/2008 19:47

how very very sad

squilly · 13/04/2008 21:02

The bloody press couldn't wait to blame him for the death of his girlfriend. The headlines with their accusations of murder and supplying drugs.

The poor bloke lost his fiance, ffs, found her in an appalling state in the bath and then had to face the British Press, who were out to get him.

Career, gone; beautiful girlfriend, gone; reputation, shot to buggery. No wonder he couldn't face the future.

Poor bloke. He had such a kind face and seemed a genuinely nice bloke. And the press vultures who made a bit of cash out of the splash headlines won't even lose a nights sleep I daresay

Rest in peace Mark.

foofi · 13/04/2008 21:03

Very sad to hear of his death on BBC24 just now.

serenity · 13/04/2008 21:05

Very very sad I always liked him.

ruty · 13/04/2008 21:23

awful. and almost impossible to recover from having your career ruined by press murder accusations, etc. What a terrible waste of both lives.

edam · 13/04/2008 23:10

Um, I don't think you'll find any headlines accusing him of murder in the archives. You'll find stories saying his girlfriend had been found dead and he'd been arrested/taken in for questioning (can't remember which).

ruty · 14/04/2008 09:14

yes sorry, but i thought the headlines were a bit sensationalist.

WendyWeber · 14/04/2008 11:00

He was "arrested on suspicion of murder and supplying class-A drugs but was released without charge."

There were headlines at the time, edam. This was the first thread about it - (obv the headlines linked to will have been changed since then)

OK, it probably didn't make him feel any worse than he did already, but it could have been handled more gently. The tabloids so love a good scandal

WendyWeber · 14/04/2008 11:08

Quote from Natasha's mother: "He's had long moments in the police cell with them blaming him for something he didn't do. He was treated like a criminal."
