Why is no one talking about Project 2025?

I have looked for another thread on the topic and was surprised not to find one...

The far right is going fucking bonkers. Particularly in the US. If you haven't read up on Project 2025 I would urge you to do so. It is really quite concerning.

It really feels like the world is on a precipice, and if it tips over the edge, everything is going to go to shit.

Trouble is I'm worried that all of the sane people on the planet are too worried about being "kind" and "woke", or about saying something that might hurt someone else's feelings (let's face it you can't turn around without hurting someone's feelings these days) to actually do something about it.

Is anyone else just looking around at what's going on around the world and thinking WTF?

Yeah thats all a bit much, they may come a cropper with the constitution at some point. I think the constitution doesn’t mention Christianity or god but does mention “creator”, but I don’t know that for a fact. I mean they are just a giant list of “wish to haves”.

They could try to basically sack most civil servants but I don’t know how that would work in practice, no idea how you could cast them all as political appointments. It’s all extremely sinister. Getting rid of the department of education is one of the battiest ideas i’ve seen. And just everything on women, trying to ban birth control is just plain evil and insane.

I think it looks good in part and just what's needed to shift the Overton window

DuncinToffee · 18/07/2024 19:19

Would you vote for it @Useruser1 ?

What appeals to you about it?

Thanks for starting this thread, OP. This does need sunlight on.

Placemarking for now, and will come back and read more.

I need to read the full details but from what I see is focusing on a maga mindset including deportation of unallowed non citizens and closing the border (physical with Mexico and via fights etc).

Imagine a government where they are unapologetically for their citizens.

Great thing with democracy of course is everyone gets a day even if you disagree!!

It's not a great thing for democracy at all - it's an attempt to bring in an autocracy. I suggest you read up more about it. The views on women are chilling.

Thank you for the link. I’d heard of it but nothing about it.

What are the "Chilling views about women?

Well firstly, it's centred around Christian values which like all the Abrahamic faiths are misogynist. It also favours gender essentialism and the 'traditional' family.

Secondly, it also wants to get rid off all methods of contraception even discourage the fertility method. It wants to remove protection of medical records so women who have abortions can be tracked. It wants powers to prevent abortion pills being sent in the mail.

They are not calling to stop abortion but are calling for medical equipment used in abortion to be banned.

CaveMum · 18/07/2024 21:19

TRIP US did a deep dive on Project 2025 last month, it’s well worth listening to.

which presumably will cause difficulties for many other types of procedure as well

lljkk · 19/07/2024 14:06

afaik, one of the interesting aspects to their anti-abortion policy, is that female soldiers or female spouses of soldiers would not be able to get an abortion using their routine medical insurance. They would have to go private to get that service. Or take leave to go to another jurisdiction if they are overseas.

One of the funny things about MAGA is that they promote policies that encourage more babies to be born to poor people who can't get access to abortion. Poor people are more likely to be brown people in USA. And that's ok... because MAGAites love brown people and want more of them in America. Right?

lljkk · 19/07/2024 14:11

Molly JongFast has had people on her podcast recently talking about how Supreme Court used to defer to Expertise in govt agencies in specific areas, like mechanical issues, or biological or ecological... the justices would say "we're lawyers not biologists" we have to take your advice. But the Chevron ruling took a lot of teeth out of govt agencies to regulate things (you know, like safe drinking water...) Because the originalist Justices (Thomas) said those regulatory powers weren't obviously given to agencies in the Constitution, and that SCOTUS could in fact claim equal expertise in such domains.

I dunno. If American ppl mostly vote for Trump then his chaos, nepotism, cronyism & general crap is what they deserve. American people allowed rampant jerrymandering & donate in huge amounts to the Trump Cult.
