This is the second time this has happened. Another one came over 2 years ago for the same reasons. It's outrageous?

if it was an australian paedophile that had moved here when he was 5 would people be arguing that he shouldn't be sent back to aus? thought not.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 20/03/2008 17:25

Ahem. I would. Dont be toooo quick to answer your own questions

edam · 20/03/2008 17:30

I thought that boy who killed Philip Lawrence couldn't be sent back to his country of origin precisely because he'd moved here as a child. Maybe there are different rules for EU and non-EU.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 20/03/2008 17:34

What we can't deport to EU countries??

Learco Chindamo could not be deported as he was an EU citizen.

But the fact is that where the law allows it the Government have a policy to deport foreign nationals on release from jail.

Piffle · 20/03/2008 18:43

vvv like the way you blame the Australian society for making him

VeniVidiVickiQV · 20/03/2008 18:53

well..........

Seriously though, there is that element, but, mostly a social responsibility. He is a human being after all. He was brought up there, he shouldnt be passed over because they dont feel able to deal with him.

I mean, I know that this is how we communised Australia in the first place but times have moved on somewhat

expatinscotland · 20/03/2008 18:54

he's not an Australian citizen. he never naturalised. therefore, he can be deported.

expatinscotland · 20/03/2008 18:54

he's not an Australian citizen. he never naturalised. therefore, he can be deported.

scottishmummy · 20/03/2008 19:01

the man is technically british citizen and unpleasant as it is i bet UK would do same thing if we could

VeniVidiVickiQV · 20/03/2008 19:04

Undoubtedly. I still think it's wrong though.

scottishmummy · 20/03/2008 19:08

well face it the don't want the depraved sordid creep do they!so yep technically he is our problem now

VeniVidiVickiQV · 20/03/2008 19:10

Yes, it's true. Still sucks - for many reasons other than NIMBYism.

Shaniece · 20/03/2008 19:12

Would someone please answer me this question? If an Australian (or other nationality) served a sentence in the UK (for being a Paedophile) - would that person be deported back to their own country or not??

LoveAndSqualor · 20/03/2008 19:13

Shaniece: yes. They would.

LoveAndSqualor · 20/03/2008 19:14

As Stripeymama explained ...

scottishmummy · 20/03/2008 19:14

depends on citizenship and naturalisation rules, i think if not UK citizen then yes deported back end of sentence

motherinferior · 20/03/2008 19:18

I really don't think that given the UK's record on shipping people who aren't paedophiles back to their countries of origin we are in a position to talk.

Shaniece · 20/03/2008 19:18

What gets me is, there was another Paedophile sent here from OZ a few years ago for the same reasons as this one - he has spent 25 years in Prison for child sex offences, considered extremely dangerous AND WE are expected to house him, feed him, clothe him etc etc, and sod has never worked in OZ let alone here. Why the bloody hell should we look after him??

StripeyMama · 20/03/2008 20:11

Because he is a British national/citizen. However objectionable the man may be, legally he is the 'responsibility' of this country.

Would you prefer it if Australia got to keep these two men, and we got to keep all foreign nationals who were convicted of crimes in this country?

I suspect if it were the other way round you would be calling for immediate deportation.

edam · 20/03/2008 22:41

We do seem to keep quite a lot of foreign nationals who have been convicted of crimes here. As in the case of Learco Chindamo. He couldn't be sent back because he had been here so long - same applies to this Aussie bloke but he's coming back.

Piffle · 20/03/2008 22:44

Edam.... Think historically per head of population oz has more criminal foreign nationals
which colony can the uk send them to these days?

Jane68 · 20/03/2008 22:47

Unfortunately he isn't their paedophile he's ours. Australian Govt are just doing what our Govt should be doing and deporting their criminals to their country of origin. What pissed me off is the sodding towel on his head, he doesn't deserve the anonymity.

buzzybee · 20/03/2008 22:57

I'm in New Zealand. We just had a similar situation with a paedophile in Oz who was on parole from prison there until they discovered he had built a cell in his garden...they then sent him back to NZ (born here, moved to OZ when very young etc). What makes it worse for me is that I found this out when my daughter's school sent home a notice to parents warning that this man had been seen hanging around the school with a kitten - said school is 200m from my house!!!

Much as this scares the out of me, I never questioned why the Aussies would send him back. I'm sure we would do the same given half the chance in similar circs (and probably have done).
