Mumsnet in the Times

Here's a nice article about Mumsnet - make way for the newbies.

And blimey don't Justine and Carrie have a lot of children?

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 16/03/2008 22:01

it's like weddings, someone always gets hacked off that they weren't invited.

Cam · 16/03/2008 22:01

With a nod to Mr Men characters, we could be the Mrs Mums

Aitch · 16/03/2008 22:01

not me. i hate weddings. i'm always delighted not to go. [virtually teetotal]

expatinscotland · 16/03/2008 22:01

i didn't bring them, aitch.

i'd probably puke on them.

MUST go to bed, they're still out and we have to get up dead early.

Aitch · 16/03/2008 22:03

my sympathies and yet my congratulations once again. symptoms are good, remember...

WendyWeber · 16/03/2008 22:03

You'd be v near the top though, Boco darling (and so would ahundredtimes - v good idea to begin your name with a or b )

soapbox · 16/03/2008 22:04

I reiterate though, I have no issue at all with the regular posters who were chosen, even although I would have perhaps chosen slightly differently - but then so would most others.

That is why I am taking strong issue with VVVQV's posts, which imply that I have complained about the article or the regulars who were chosen, which is absolutely not true!

GermaineSneer · 16/03/2008 22:04

do oyu knwo what i htink i hate weddings

Boco that is a dreadful idea.

See a similarity, hmm?

VS - what documentary? You could say "I wonder, truly..." and "...bocoause..." and "...aitchually..." etc

Oh shit I've made a list.

SorenLorensen · 16/03/2008 22:07

I have my own list. I am the only one on it. It's h'exclusive, dontchaknow?

Prufrock · 16/03/2008 22:07

Oh Aitch it's not meant to be hurtful, it's just that Mumsnet has changed a lot lot lot since the original incarnation that I found in 2002. This is not meant at all to be a oldies v. newbies rant, but it has changed. Each of us is entitled to our own opinion on whether that change is for the better, and the fact that I sometimes long for the old days when Soapy's list were not only the elders but the majority of the posters is irrelevant - I don't own Mumsnet and it's current state is still a place I enjoy being. But the fact is that to be seen as a regular, or even to be able to build up significant relationships with other posters you do have to be on here far more than we used to in the days when you could see all of the last days posts in one screen.

Aitch · 16/03/2008 22:07

and drinking for too long. i prefer my drinks consumed on a binge basis, when it's all day i just get headachey by 7pm.

aaardvark · 16/03/2008 22:07

(Or change to aaardvark, Dior)

Damn - someone beat you to it

aCam · 16/03/2008 22:07

It was my idea, acksherly

Boco · 16/03/2008 22:08

Dammit Wendy, saw right through me.

To be honest Soapbox, I thought your comment on timesonline sounded like you were complaining about the article and suggesting an alternative list - were you not, sorry if i misunderstand

'CM you should know better than to single out a few 'celeb' posters as the thread on MN attests to!

Go on add a list of the MN elders to the comments section - you can use my list and amend as appropriate!'

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 16/03/2008 22:08

its all a bit 'jobs for the girls really'

Not like RL

Aitch · 16/03/2008 22:08

i suppose i thought it was meant to be hurtful because you mentioned shit-stirring. good to know it wasn't.

VictorianSqualor · 16/03/2008 22:09

LOL WT.

Some documentary thingy about online communities, we have to wax lyrical about how wonderful MN is and how it's better for advice than the government

SorenLorensen - well if you will name change...

VeniVidiVickiQV · 16/03/2008 22:10

Soapy, I dont think it is about qualifications at all. I'm sorry if you thought that I meant that folk had to achieve certain things to be on a list. I should add that I thought you did a fab job with the Christmas appeal, and of course was your original idea, by the by.

I just think posting a list of who you think should be there, is no better, and, indeed is a bit of a slap in the face of those who were written about on the list - as though they are somehow less worthy in your eyes -because that's what you are saying by doing that - even if you arent actually saying it.

What CM says, and who she picked is largely based on what'll make a good story, and what her editor feels will fill a gap appropriately. It's an impartial selection in that respect. Which is what I take issue with as far as your POV on the subject goes.

LedodgyCheapEasterEggsAreASin · 16/03/2008 22:10

OOh Cod it isn't in May in Shropshire is it?

hotcrossMonkeybun · 16/03/2008 22:11

VS, yeah what documentary?

I recommend you mention monkeybird, she's really funny.

SorenLorensen · 16/03/2008 22:12

soapbox, that's right, make it my fault
