Mumsnet in the Times

Here's a nice article about Mumsnet - make way for the newbies.

And blimey don't Justine and Carrie have a lot of children?

I've lurked on this thread for what now feels like most of my life. But wait - isn't life just too damn short to piss it away debating whether names should have been named, and if they had to be named why did they pick those names? If it wasn't in a glossy pull-out and if H&S requirements weren't as they are, the article would have been chip-wrappings by now in any case.

can I just say:

eh eh eh

(has inevitably offended the whole of Liverpool)

VeniVidiVickiQV · 16/03/2008 20:44

Is that why this is narking you WWW? You consider yourself more of a regular than others?

I really truly havent seen you about much - I'd say maybe a few months post the GF thing. I'm sorry if that offends you. It's certainly not meant to. I felt it was acceptable to point out that who you consider regular mightnt work the same way for everyone, since you had made the point yourself about Hunker and Aitch.

And, as I said, I'm sure you are a really lovely person. Just not something I have much in common with on here so our paths usually dont cross.

tortoiseSHELL · 16/03/2008 20:44

www and enid, I love you both, and always read your threads - definitely regulars! xxxxxx

Oliveoil · 16/03/2008 20:44

"May I ask the newbies on here (hello newbies, BTW) - does it make a fart in a snowstorm's difference that you may have seen my posting name in the mag, rather than all the others here? "

just wanted to answer that one - no it doesn't make a difference that I've "seen" you all in the Times - BUT - there are lots of threads I'm too scared to post on because I'm a newbie and not in the "gang"....it's like trying to go up to the popular girls at school. Or when you start a new job and there's a group of people you'd like to be friends with...they're all very nice and invite you to lunch with them, but you'll never quite be in their gang cos you don't share all the old in-jokes etc.

not saying that is anyone's fault, I feel quite at home eg in my little post-natal thread. but some of the chat ones are scary...

katierocket · 16/03/2008 20:45

It's funny because having been here since 2001 your perspective really does change.

First phase: very keen, start threads saying "ooo I'm addicted to mumsnet, what do I do"
second phase: post all the time, recognise regular mumsnetters, good banter etc
third phase: get a bit bored of the same threads over and over
fourth phase: think "mmmm perhaps I'm over mumsnet"
fifth: you dip in and out. You still get loads from it but it doesn't rule your life.

GermaineSneer · 16/03/2008 20:45

hmm i think i am going to hide this thread now.

SheikYerboutisEggHunt · 16/03/2008 20:46

I'll be freinds with anyone, me

Ledodgy · 16/03/2008 20:47

Sheik I am deeplky offended by that How dare you make out that all scousers have curly hair and say 'eh, eh, eh'!!

Only messing ,. we scousers are famed for our sense of humour you know.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 16/03/2008 20:47

Why is it rotten enid? I'm only reflecting comments that you, www and soapbox have made.

How is it okay for you to say it about others, and not have it said back to you, and then have folk saying "it's nothing personal"?

I think the comments that have been made about Cod, MP, Aitch, LL and Hunker have been pretty rotten, as it happens. It's really no surprise that Hunker has gone.

TheHonEnid · 16/03/2008 20:47
Caz10 · 16/03/2008 20:48

why has hunker gone? i was just going to say that because of where I normally post (Bf-ing) Hunker and Aitch have been lovely and helpful to me and sooooo many others.

katierocket · 16/03/2008 20:48

and enid and www are the dogs b.

as are (apologies for the indulgent list):
Aloha
jimjams
soupy
tamum

amongst many others

VeniVidiVickiQV · 16/03/2008 20:48

That middle sentence should have had it's middle at the end and the end in the middle

hotcrossMonkeybun · 16/03/2008 20:48

GermaineSneer · 16/03/2008 20:49

Oliveoil · 16/03/2008 20:49

[but it is 30% off, get ye a train pass/tractor/horse]

hunker is always going, that lady is in denial

Swedes · 16/03/2008 20:49

This thread has become a bit silly. The Mumsnet four are clearly representative of mumsnet for some posters but not others, probably not most posters. I don't see why that is something to fight about.

TheHonEnid · 16/03/2008 20:49

I dont think I said I didn't read threads if they were by certain people though

I can see this is in danger of becoming silly and aggressive so will go and spend time with poor dh

hunker is always going

Carmenere · 16/03/2008 20:49

There are so many regulars on here now that it would be utterly ridiculous to even think that you could have a selection that would mean the same to everyone. The ones who were chosen are regulars, what was written about them was not up to them and not even accurate. Those that have a problem with the piece and with mn probably should just take a break, whether you intend to or not you sound bitter

katierocket · 16/03/2008 20:50

Oi Enid - if you can't use it. I'll have it.

Oliveoil · 16/03/2008 20:50

no idea tbh

just pretend you are related [horror]

going to read my papers now and eat cheese

x

Bubble99 · 16/03/2008 20:50
