Back in the early 1800s there were only a small number of Jews that lived in Palestine. Herzl then determined that this should become a permanent home for Jews and gained political support. No one consulted the Palestinians. Jewish people have since been settling there and occupying more and more land and now aggressively protect the land they have settled on, primarily with US support. I expect the Jewish people will eventually take over the entire former Palestine because they have the military power to do so.

@Luckydip1 surely the history extends further than 1800. I was imagining at least to the Nativity ArchersConfused

This is an excellent, simple guide. I found after discussion on another thread and found it very informative indeed.

Simple it may be, unbiased it is not.

I am not sure that my first port of call for unbiased reporting would be a Qatari monarch owned news channel.

In short. Hamas are a terrorist group which are in charge of Gaza and they launched an unprecedented terror attack Israel on Saturday killing people at a music concert and making their way across the country taking hostages and bringing them back to Gaza. Horrific stories of violence - 1,300 dead. It’s unprecedented because of Israel’s excellent security systems. In retaliation Isreal are carpet bombing the 2.2 million residents in Gaza, and have blocked off access to electricity, food, medicine. Nothing or nobody goes in or out. Reports that the hospitals are over flowing with the injured - 1,500 dead. That’s just what happened in the last few days, obviously the story didn’t start on Saturday.

I think this misses out on some exceptionally important history!

It’s not like Hamas fell from the sky last week, this is a decades long conflict borne of centuries long religious hatred/discrimination/war/persecution.

It's important to look at a map and see the size of lsrael completely surrounded by Arab nations. Some of them have the expressed a wish to see lsrael completely wiped out..eg lran. No wonder they have armed themselves well as its a total necessity for them.
Remember there was already an effort made during WW2 to completely wipe Jews from the face of the earth. The hatred of Jews worldwide has been a difficulty for generations right across many countries. This whole episode cannot be understood without keeping these facts about Jews in mind l believe.

I would recommend this book, I read it over 10 years ago now as I was having problems understanding what was happening in the middle-east. You need something impartial and balanced. taking all world history and actual historical facts into consideration, then you can come to your own informed opinion.

Internet sensationalism and echo - chambers are not the way. They're leading to such misinformation and chaos.

It is about as equally / unequally biased as any other news source.

Every source chooses what what information to share or not share and is never 100% neutral.

It has a very good reputation on the global media stage.

I think it’s important to mention WW2 and the holocaust, and the need for a Jewish homeland which ultimately led to what happened in 1948.

I’m not defending settlements, but I do think that leaving the Holocaust out is a very big omission

I completely agree. That’s why I said the story didn’t start on Saturday and posted a link to explain. It would be an exceptionally long post otherwise.
