here

So awful. Can't imagine what the family are going through.

If you have blind cords, perhaps it would be an idea to hook them up and out of reach of young children? Not something you would normally think of.

how sad this happened to another child a while ago

scorpio1 · 06/02/2008 11:37

thats terrible. off to tie mine up now.

tiredemma · 06/02/2008 11:37

Oh- I have just seen this on the news- awful.

WendyWeber · 06/02/2008 11:37

Oh no - it's not the first time this has happened either - poor lamb, and her family must be in bits

moljam · 06/02/2008 11:38

that is so sad.

tasjaSAmuminUK · 06/02/2008 11:39

so sad. I always make sure I put my cord up high were DD can't reach it.

itsahardknocklife · 06/02/2008 11:44

oh what a sad story. the poor family. I am going right now to tie our blind cords up really high.

2shoes · 06/02/2008 11:55

how tragic

Kewcumber · 06/02/2008 11:56

thankfully my blinds don;t have a looped cord but two separate strings. How awful

suedonim · 06/02/2008 12:15

What a tragic accident. It's almost idnetical to an incident that occured in the same area about 10yrs ago. I think that involved a wee boy. Maybe blinds and corded curtains should come with a suggestion that the loops are tucked up high and out of reach of children.

bobsmum · 06/02/2008 12:20

Dh just emailed me this story - will go and tie up the cords in dc's rooms. I usually do them, but I do forget every now and again.

A friend's friend lost her wee boy to this a couple of years ago too - v sad.

PatsyCline · 06/02/2008 12:39

Poor little thing (and poor family). My mum was a HV and one of her families lost a toddler in this way, so she made me aware of the danger when I had my DCs. I don't think that it is flagged much.

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 06/02/2008 12:41

This has happened a few times before. I remember when I was pregnant in 2000 a child died from strangulation of cord blinds. Have been obsessive about them being out of the way ever since.

Such a sad thing to happen again.

You are right, PC, it isn't flagged up anywhere near enough.

Flier · 06/02/2008 12:44

so,so sad. We have a hook on the side of the window to wrap the cord around.

gibberish · 06/02/2008 12:45

News cameras all camped outside their house now Want to go across and scream at them all to leave the poor family in peace.

My2Weegirls · 06/02/2008 15:38

just saw this on the news so sad, poor family.

and for the media to be camped outside is horrible for them

TheMadHouse · 06/02/2008 16:57

This is so sad, very upsetting

ComeOVeneer · 06/02/2008 17:06

So terrible sad. We have blinds with looped cords in every single window in this house. I know what I will be doing for the next few minutes

flamingtoaster · 06/02/2008 17:08

How very sad.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 06/02/2008 18:26

We have some sort of safety cord made of plastic which has a point that snaps if too mch pressure is put on it (and can be put back together if you snap it by accident).

Very sad.

Triggles · 06/02/2008 20:11

DH & I were just talking yesterday about putting blinds in. He liked the idea, and I was adamant that I didn't want them. I showed him this and he said "ok, no blinds then." It's something I'm absolutely paranoid about. So sad.

McDreamy · 06/02/2008 20:13

how terribly sad
