Wow, this is such a powerful topic. I wonder though, if a 10 year old child who is prepared to murder a toddler can actually be rehabilitated? They spent the second half of their childhoods being raised in prison. And, we are now pondering if that has prepared them to be normal functioning members of society? I personally think that if you put normal 10 year old in prison for ten years, they will no longer be happy functioning member of society. But, these two were murderers when they went in.

What kind of people are they now? And, more importantly, where the F are their parents? Why weren't they held accountable for ten year old monsters they created?

Legally, I agree that the time which was sentenced has been served. So, legally Mrs. Bulger (assume that's her name) has no right to confront these men. However, morally, I think she has right hunt them down and kill them.

Uwila · 30/11/2004 15:30

Oh Rebi... so sorry!

spacemonkey · 30/11/2004 15:31

So sorry to hear about your loss rebi

Completely agree with everything sophable says.

Uwila, how can hunting down and killing someone ever be morally right?

Tinker · 30/11/2004 15:36

"morally, I think she has right hunt them down and kill them" ???????????????

Rebi - so sorry to hear what happened to your brother.

Uwila · 30/11/2004 15:36

How can it not under these circumstances?

I don't buy the theory that these are innocent children who are victims of their upbringing. I think they are monsters who probably beyond repair.

Mrs Bulger lives in Hell that no one I know could possibly even begin to understand. And I couldn't blame for NAYTHING she chose to do to these guys.

spacemonkey · 30/11/2004 15:37

I don't think hunting down and killing anyone in any circumstances is morally right

Uwila · 30/11/2004 15:39

uh oh... I can see I'm going to be lynched....

we need a running away emoticon.

spacemonkey · 30/11/2004 15:39

it might be understandable, but never morally right

i don't see how you can argue with that one uwila!

Uwila · 30/11/2004 15:40

I guess I'm more of the "eye for an eye" philosophy...

spacemonkey · 30/11/2004 15:40

how about "thou shalt not kill"

CarrieG · 30/11/2004 15:42

...or even 'Vengeance is mine, saith the Lord'

Blu · 30/11/2004 15:45

Because, morally, as a society, we have decided to operate through the criminal justice system. You can't have it both ways.

For me, if we respond in kind to murderers, we are allowing them to set the moral level of our society.

spacemonkey · 30/11/2004 15:47

hear hear blu

nasa · 30/11/2004 15:48

I wouldn't like to see the kind of society that your suggested behaviour would lead to Uwila. Lynch mobs, vigilantes...

Uwila · 30/11/2004 15:48

yes, I agree with the last few posts. I guess understandable is better than "morally right". And, yes, of course society could not function in a civilised manner this way. It's just that my sypathy lies with the bulgers, not the murderers.

Has anyone seen "In the Bedroom", a 2001 movie starring Sissy Spacek and Marisa Tomei, about a couple whose son is murdered by his girlfriend's x-boyfriend, and their eventual revenge?

Interesting question.

twatshank · 30/11/2004 18:10

The Bulger case is something i feel very strong about. I have read a couple of things, books articles and it makes me cry everytime. I would love nothing more than for them to be found and the vigailanties to rip them apart limb from limb.
What they did to that baby sickens me to the pit of my stomach, i say let it be common knowledge where they are....see how long they last. xx

Gobbledigook · 30/11/2004 18:20

Come on, own up, who are you really?!

JoolsToo · 30/11/2004 18:22

yes - have the courage of your convictions!

hercules · 30/11/2004 18:24

Gosh twatshank. You're a delightful person. I hope you get into government one day.
