Could end in tears, but sure to be exciting...........

Got goosebumps when I heard the news last night.

Those were the days - the 5-0 thrashing of Man U; the whole town was jumping

The policy of 'if they score 6, we'll score 7'

Not sure if it will work again but am relishing the chance to find out.

Keegan is very beloved in Newcastle, so he should do well. If they REALLY want to do well, they should appoint Alan Shearer as number 2, ready to take over when Keegan goes.

niceglasses · 17/01/2008 17:07

I think if they appointed Shearer No2 Tyneside would explode in delight. 'Twould be lush.

I think Shearer has really improved in a public sense. He used to be sooooooo boring to interview. I think he is much more comfortable with himself now......

King Kev back at the toon - never though that would happen.

They might actually be worth watching again now.

Have my reservations about Shearer though - great player but not sure if he'd be any good at the management lark....has anything been announced about him yet?

DaDaDa · 17/01/2008 17:26

Would it be 'geet lush'?

I'd have preferred Shearer as Manager with Keegan as Director of Football. Just to get the Shearer thing over and done with.

I have my doubts about Shearer - too much looking out for himself above the team, but until he's had a crack at the job the media will always be banging on about him.

unknownrebelbang · 17/01/2008 17:34

Pah. Knew as soon as KK was signed Stoke would get stuffed last night.

(was half-hoping Stoke might have got a result if NU had remained managerless for the game).

Be interesting to see how he copes this time around.

Monkeytrousers · 17/01/2008 19:33

DP and his mum are very excited. He says the atmos[here at the games will be electric.

(BTW, how are you NG???)

Monkeytrousers · 17/01/2008 19:34

oh god, yes he talks very highly about the Ginola days

fairylights · 17/01/2008 19:38

ooh this household is the east midlands outpost of the toon army! we are most definitely strapped in and ready for the ride.. my dh (who is the real geordie) woke up this morning singing "we're walking in a keegan wonderland.." - can't remember when i last saw him so excited!!
His brother and uncle both have season tickets though and they are surprisingly negative about it.. ah well, only time will tell.
It is exciting that other people on MN like football - bit of a surprise!

jezzemx · 17/01/2008 20:54

Yeeehaaaa over the moon.
I Love King Kev.
Do you think we will get called The Entertainers again??????
DH must be impressed as he's bought a ticket for the rest of the season.

mosschops30 · 17/01/2008 20:56

I'm pretty chuffed, us geordies like our own
I just hope Shearer gets a look in as second in command and can take over when the time is right

Oh that is harsh Dino! He was burnt out and I (and I think alot of people) respect him, for bowing out when he did. It isn;t all men who know when to get out of the kitchen when it gets too hot for them! He's a bigger man for it!

Monkeytrousers · 17/01/2008 22:45

But must catch up with you next time you;re up so lemme know! And NG's!

MrsPhilipGlenister · 17/01/2008 22:46

Maybe so but the truly successful managers don't do it.

MrsPhilipGlenister · 17/01/2008 22:47

Yes! Will be up in May! (It's Dinosaur, btw.) Will only have DS2 with me this time for what will hopefully be his last ever appointment at the hospital in Sunderland. We'll only be there for one afternoon and evening, basically, but it would be great to try and get together at least for coffee.

Janni · 17/01/2008 22:48

Our best man in his wedding speech, 11 years ago, (when Keegan was manager), warned me that my new husband was a bigamist because he was, in fact, already married to The Toon.

This has proved true.

niceglasses · 17/01/2008 22:52

I could ahem, possibly do Sunderland, to save a bit of time. MT?

MrsPhilipGlenister · 17/01/2008 22:55

No need to get down with the Mackems (is that how you spell it) DS2 has already said he wants to stay at the Thistle Hotel in Newcastle (just over the road from the station) so that's where we'll be! Can't remember the date off top of head but will certainly let you know! Niceglasses, I don't think I have your email addy - will CAT you. MOnkeytrousers, sorry not to have been in touch for a while - did I give you my new email addy or have I been completely slack???

puffybear · 17/01/2008 22:55

DH has already got dd2, 17mths, punching the air whilst shouting "Keegan" (or rather "Kee - gah"). Can see it getting very rowdy in our house when the Toon's on Sky and Setanta.

Monkeytrousers · 17/01/2008 23:07

I remembered Dino

MrsPhilipGlenister · 17/01/2008 23:08

I will send you the new email address just in case - and new work one when I start there the week after next.

Until May, then!

Monkeytrousers · 17/01/2008 23:09

Dino, beware of Makems, their barbarian rep is justified (I am half mackam/half wooly back, a terrible breed) so have a foot in the camp!

Monkeytrousers · 17/01/2008 23:09

okeydokey

Monkeytrousers · 17/01/2008 23:10

remebered re MrsPhilipGlenister BTW, not out else
