[snort] @ Goose

That bit of Top Gun still makes me cry

UnquietDad · 16/01/2008 11:05

We've always known it, haven't we?

It seems to me that pretty much everyone in prominence in the USA is a religious nutter of some sort. (Presidential candidates included.) I don't see why Cruise is any worse than any others because he worships a different brand of invisible, non-existent imaginary friend.

EricL · 16/01/2008 11:06

"Being a Scientologist, when you drive past an accident, it's not like anyone else; as you drive past, you know you have to do something about it, because you know you're the only one that can really help"

I never realised Scientologists underwent years of medical training to become paramedics as part of their religion.

I thought they were all pointless twats with far too much time and money on their hands.

Thank you for this revelation - my opinion of them has forever been altered.

What a wonderful and giving bunch of people they are. I just love the thought of Tom leaping out of his limo and giving medical aid to injured heathens.

brimfull · 16/01/2008 11:08

I cannot believe I used to fancy Tom Cruise ...yrs and yrs ago.

UnquietDad · 16/01/2008 11:31

Of course in criticising the Church of Scientology one can make a distinction between criticising their wacko beliefs as a church and criticising their nasty practices (for recruitment and retention) as an organisation. Some people may not wish to criticise both equally harshly. All churches are completely loopy to me, but some are more harmlessly loopy.

QuintessentialShadow · 16/01/2008 11:38

Question 1 is: Will I become rich if I convert to scientology, or must I be rich already in order to convert?

Question 2 is: Will I become a no-brainer if I convert, or does it mean I already am one if I convert?

SueBaroo · 16/01/2008 11:45

I don't object to his scientology, I object to his overwhelmingly smug, arrogant and self-important cobblers. He could be a Buddhist for all I care.

But the fact that Scientology as an organization that has some disturbingly controlling aspects and has him as poster boy is a significant topic, I suppose.

MightySquonk · 16/01/2008 11:49

actually, I've just remembered that documentary on the scientologists, and how everyone who cristicised them was hunted down and hate campaigns started against them all, so upon considering all of this, and Tom Cruise's general wankerishness, I would like to state that...

um....

scientologists are all normal, well-adjusted people who have a strong belief in aliens having landed many years ago and started off the human race, and what a rational belief this is, and if I ever have another baby, it will be completely natural for me to be totally silent throughout the entire labour and birth process because that is what is set down in scripture.

or something

SueBaroo · 16/01/2008 12:54

Actually, just watched the video on the BBC, and (despite it being amusingly mis-subtitled as 'a four-year-video of Tom Cruise') it's really not particularly mad or outrageous. He's just talking like someone with enormous self-belief.

The stuff about drugs is still immensely dangerous and unhelpful, but by an large it's no worse than anything you might see on a motivational sort of telly programme.

GetOrfMoiLand · 16/01/2008 12:56

Urrghh Tom Cruise, look at the state of him.

Never thought he was at all good looking (short arse man yuk, mind you still manage to fancy Richard Hammond even though he is pocket sized hmmm). Now he is VILE. Pictures of him with his bizarre school boy haircut and fiendish grin (stood next to poor, deluded, beautiful Katie Holmes) - good god.

He is like a Roald Dahl baddie. Freak of nature.

lulumama · 16/01/2008 13:23

this thread is so funny ! i have chortled, and snurked and sprayed ! especially @ goose!

his hair.. it is, well, quite frankly, far too bouffant and coiffured.

he was gorgeous ( 20 years ago ) now he looks like a creepy caricature of himself. IMO.

juan curr indeed !

TigerFeet · 16/01/2008 13:36

Don't knock short men! I have a couple of short ex-bf's who, shall we say they weren't short everywhere Mind you am married to my 5'11 lovely man now

Lulumama (did camilla get eaten at Christmas ) I have been humming that electric guitar riff that accompanies all the macho bits - you know dooo-doo-doo doo doo doo-doo doo dooo - since WT mentioned Goose

Anthony Edwards has no luck does he? I cried when he died in ER too and I don't really watch ER much these days.

GetOrfMoiLand · 16/01/2008 13:39

I loathed Top Gun anyway, but it was completely reworked for me when I saw Quentin Tarantino in a cameo in a film (what film? Can't remember) who said the Top Gun is all about homosexual fantasies. Now I can watch it and chortle all the way through, especially the bit with Val and Tom strutting their masculine stuff in the changing rooms heehee

I love him though he has no regard for his public image or popularity just keeps getting madder and madder.

LazyLinePainterJane · 17/01/2008 09:03

Have you seen all the Scientology connections in relation to My Name Is Earl?
