I saw this news article this morning and I'm so cross.
A black schoolgirl was strip searched by police while on her period after being wrongly suspected of carrying cannabis.
The “traumatic” search by Metropolitan Police officers took place at the girl’s school without another adult present and in the knowledge that she was menstruating, a safeguarding report found.
This poor girl will be scarred for life. Regardless of whether she had cannabis on her or not (none was found and no evidence apart from a "smell"!) It is completely unacceptable to degrade a child in this way, in what should be a safe place for her, without even calling her parents. The report found that racism was an influencing factor and I believe that to be 100% true. Even back when I was at school I noticed the subtle differences in how I, a white British child, was treated compared to my black peers.
The police and school staff are supposed to be protectors, people children can trust. How something like this was allowed to happen is disgusting.
