Captain Tom Foundation spent more on costs than causes

This is a disappointing read.

"More than £240,000 of the registered charity’s expenditure went on the costs, while four grants totalling £160,000 were paid out to good causes. Of the foundation’s costs, £125,000, almost one-tenth of its income, went on fundraising consultancy fees, including to a firm run by Captain Tom’s daughter."

I'd like to think that the spotlight on this case, and the charity commissions enquiry will highlight to those who weren't previously aware that CEO salaries, electricity bills, volunteer expenses etc are all valid costs to be deducted for charity income.

That's not to say these costs shouldn't be reasonable and accounted for.

But I'd like to think that the public's eyes are opened to the true cost of running an efficient charity. And accept once and for all that staff need paying a competitive salary for the work they do and for which they are accountable.

I'm not in any way defending the perceived behaviours of this particular charity's trustees. It looks murky, and appears that the public's affection for the man at the centre of the fundraising has possibly been exploited. I hope that I'm wrong,

And I must say, it's the other daughter who i feel so sorry for. She distanced herself completely from the circus and the charity. She must feel devastated at how her Dad's name is being tarnished like this.

Another charity that is greedy and self serving for the people who 'work' for it/take from it.

Extensions to her home, high salaries, and not what the money was donated for.

Greedy grifters. Shame on them. He must be turning in his grave.

Also looks very dubious

parents funding a lifestyle??

The Charlie Gard Foundation and Charlie's Monkey Business are separate entities. Charlie's Monkey Business has never traded. The parents are not trustees of the Foundation, although the father is Marketing and Promotions Manager. You can read all about them and what they do on their website- Home - The Charlie Gard Foundation | Because Mito Matters. Doesn't look particularly dubious to me.

It looks from the CG website that Charlie's Monkey business is the seller of the merchandise? Allprofits (ie after deduction of expenditure) are donated to the CG foundation. We don't know if the company has traded, they haven't filed accounts.

Wonder why the parents aren't trustees? What's the disadvantage if being a trustee - requirement to disclose payments to, expenses reimbursed etc in the accounts?
