Ferguson used to keep them all on a very tight lease - he has lost his authority somewhat

i am sorry but had to LOL at Ferdinand organsing a "whip round" of £5k per player

TenLordsaLapin · 20/12/2007 19:33

All football players. It's insane that they are paid such vast sums at such young ages - ditto slebs. No-one reigns them in as all their hangers on are riding the gravy train.

you are feted and adored and have 50,000 people chanting your name on a Saturday afternoon

most people would have a hard time handling that sensibly

and all the money - really mind boggling

hence them thinking it is normal to pay £5k per head at an Xmas party

yes beckham was saying on the news last night that the reason he was successful and kept his nose clean was because they weren't allowed to drink as it was affecting the game. he reckoned that he'd have been done for otherwise. guess that's what is happening now.

illiterate though i worked at a school with a poster of dennis wise with the tagline 'be wise - learn to read'

rape allegations very serious

but finding it a bit too hard to be at young , possibly not terribly bright young men, fuelled by money and too much adulation behaving like pigs

WendyWeber · 20/12/2007 20:00

REIN, cod - the word is REIN (like what you use on a horse)

(Interesting that you managed to spell your title correctly apart from that - are you pissed? )

allIWannaBeForChristmas · 20/12/2007 20:00

the money is obscene.

but for a lot of them, if they didn't have football what would they have? where would they be?

allIWannaBeForChristmas · 20/12/2007 20:01

and agree that the rape alagation is very serious.

I do not, however, think that this fact, and the name of the accused, should be in the public domain atm, considering he hasn't actually been charged with anything.

WendyWeber · 20/12/2007 20:05

rape allegations too easy to make in these circs IMO.

2 versions of this story reported now:

  1. girl at party with boyfriend - went off to hotel room with player - then wept and alleged rape & boyfriend kicked off. Why did she go to hotel room?

  2. girl was dancing with player - boyfriend got upset and tried to nut player - girl and boyfriend both ejected, alleged rape not possible

Yes, a lot of players do go OTT at these dos, but who/what makes the girls go to them?

WendyWeber · 20/12/2007 20:07

This one is very bright btw - has a fistful of A* GCSEs - but his football career may be on the slide.

Also at least 2 of the players out at this do are rumoured to be up for transfer from MU. Maybe their careers are slipping too.

They get it while they can.

WendyWeber · 20/12/2007 20:08

LITTLE - you said reign too

notnowbernardimstuffingthebird · 20/12/2007 20:10

Agree with Lulumama... their behaviour, though very unpleasant, isn't really much different to many who are boozing it up in shitty little bars and clubs up and down the country every Fri and Sat night.

They just happened to be obscenely paid.

southeastastra · 20/12/2007 20:11

they're still kids. they need to be reigned in and told how to behave.

edam · 20/12/2007 20:28

rape isn't a question of being 'reined in', though. Requires a bit more than a stern telling off.

And why the scepticism about the allegations? It's a wonder anyone ever reports rape, tbh, the way so many people treat victims.

No means no. Even if someone, for example, changes their mind at the last minute.

southeastastra · 20/12/2007 20:30

i mean the need proper mentoring the minute they're signed. before this sort of thing happens.
