People are greedy, it just comes down to cold, hard cash at the end of the day.

The sons have put out a statement saying they had no idea and they don't wish to have any contact with their parents.

TenLordsaLapin · 06/12/2007 14:21

If you were defrauding insurance companies and pretending your husband was dead, why on EARTH would you pose for this photo!

When I heard on the news that there was a picture of them together in Panama, I assumed it was a surreptitious one taken without their knowledge!

NAB3littlemonkeys · 06/12/2007 14:30

Mmm. Wondering if he was initially missing and ill, she somehow managed to get the insurers to pay up years before they normally do, he turns up, she keeps quiet about the money, he wants to drop her in it.

bossybritches · 06/12/2007 14:55

Yes NAB3 I wondered that!!

Apparently though what tipped the police off 3 months ago was the sudden activity on their bank account so they were watching the whole family. The police allegedly were always unconvinced about the canoe story....but of course they would say that!!

YuleLoveHekateAtSolstice · 06/12/2007 15:25

I really doubt the sons didn't know, tbh. I think it's more likely the parents are trying to make sure the sons aren't implicated in any way.

Fraud is one thing (illegal, wrong, I know!) but I cannot imagine a father allowing their children to think they were dead, or a mother to watch her sons sob and suffer and grieve, knowing it was not real?? I don't believe it. I think they all planned for the kids to feign ignorance if it all came out. That way, they are protected, whatever happens.

As a mother, that's what I'd do.

HonoriaGlossop · 06/12/2007 15:55

yule that's a very good point. There is a big difference between defrauding an insurance company, an 'impersonal' sort of crime, and allowing your own children to feel the loss and bereavement of their own father, all the while knowing it isn't true..that really would be monstrous - hard to believe. I will be SO interested to see how this develops.

bonkerzaboutxmas · 06/12/2007 16:07

local radio station ran this story earlier and said that friends of the family had seen the missing man and spoke about him alot.

NAB3littlemonkeys · 06/12/2007 17:18

Why have both sons recently quit their jobs???? now.

bossybritches · 07/12/2007 07:44

Possibly because they are both in financial institutions & mud sticks? Or was that befoer it all came out?

The poor sods have disowned their parents now what a sad situation they've found themselves in.
