Unless you out yourself first. Here are some pretty words about us

Oi, someone start a thread about how soon you can breastfeed after an e then, g'wan

Someone started one this morning...

(Conclusion was about three days, IIRC)

UnquietDad · 30/11/2007 20:27

I must admit all these Zoes and Lucys and Jennys who wibble about their lives in the colour supplements rather blur into one for me.

Monkeytrousers · 30/11/2007 20:28

haha - now we know. [panto ]

policywonk · 30/11/2007 20:29

hmm (flips through enormous mental Rolodex of Grauniad columnists), maybe Catherine Bennett? She's a bit mouthy.

policywonk · 30/11/2007 20:30

What do we know we know MT? Who ZW is?

foxinsocks · 30/11/2007 20:33

I don't mind them (columnists) but do despair at all the 'columnist has baby - first women on planet to experience childbirth, the NHS, newborns, sleepless nights' type phenomena

DaDaDa · 30/11/2007 20:37

I tried reading that article but I just couldn't follow it, all those A's, C's and D's.

Do you think she's a regular and wrote it in a needy fit of pique and all the attention Lor Caitlin Moran got last week?

Starter for ten on the most irritating columnist: Polly Vernon.

DaDaDa · 30/11/2007 20:39

ugh, must preview. 'At all the attention', obviously.

yurt1 · 30/11/2007 20:46

I'm sure it was another Lucy policywonk. Definitely had kids though...... I can only ever remember Charlotte Moore (who I lurve).

policywonk · 30/11/2007 20:47

Well the last time we discussed her on here it didn't go so well for her... Maybe she has yet to search for her own name?

motherinferior · 30/11/2007 20:54

I nearly emailed her directly to point out nobody ever answered my question about whether you could smoke dope while breastfeeding. Apart from Jasper (and what happened to Jasper?) who told me helpfully not to drop ash on the baby's head

Yurt1, you're thinking of Mizz Turner, who has perchance it just might be returned.

RosaLuxMundi · 30/11/2007 20:55

Was it Lucy Cavendish? She is the type

OP posts:
RosaLuxMundi · 30/11/2007 20:58

She is bound to have done a search on her name. All columnists google themselves daily. Tis the first law of the solipsist.

Can I say in defence of, well, me, that one does get commissioned to write about babies. In fact I count among my Greatest Works of Fiction a piece I once wrote about 'the first six weeks' which was all kind of warm and pink and fuzzy and generally, well, a fairy tale

foxinsocks · 30/11/2007 21:17

there's no defence MI

motherinferior · 30/11/2007 21:18

I will send it to you, Foxster. You will absolutely roar.

Monkeytrousers · 30/11/2007 21:19

I did start that thread with the best of mischievous intentions

rantinghousewife · 30/11/2007 21:25

Oh Polly Vernon annoys the blardy life out of me, she used to do that irritating cocktail girl thing in one of the supplements, all 'dahling this is sooo louche'.
She turns up in Grazia now too, mind you I find most of the Grazia columnists immensely irritating too, so she fits right in.

foxinsocks · 30/11/2007 21:27

she still does that does our Polly

lol MI.

WideWebWitch · 30/11/2007 21:32

I hate Polly Vernon too.

rantinghousewife · 30/11/2007 21:33

Do you reckon the Fiona Mackintosh is on here too.

yurt1 · 30/11/2007 22:00

no, no Janice Turner was around for longer and recently. Bigmama or whoever it was was years ago. Oh I don't know I am totally confused, they all roll into one. Only Charlotte Moore makes any sense to me (and I think she's long gone from the Guardian).

Monkeytrousers · 01/12/2007 11:42

What is William's postition on porn? Anyone know? Liberal, anti, pro???

kittock · 01/12/2007 13:02

What's not to like about Zoe Williams? She's funny. And I wanted to embrace her like a long lost sister when I read her column about Melanie Phillips.

It is a law of nature that everybody who talks about their newborns bores the tits off everyone who doesn't also happen to have a newborn at that particular time. So under the circumstances I think her recent columns have been pretty good.

policywonk · 01/12/2007 14:56

She annoys me because she's so bossy, and doesn't seem to acknowledge that other semi-reasonable people might make different choices from her. Like her article on birth, in which she said that anyone who didn't have an epidural must be 'unutterably stupid' and 'vain' - not for comic effect but because that seems to be what she actually thinks. For that, she can bite me, frankly. I like her on feminism, mostly, but on other things she can irritate me beyond bearing.
