Bing Crosby has suddenly been released today on a technicality what do people think?

OP posts:
Aquamarine1029 · 01/07/2021 02:07

Old Bing must look like hell.

Leshan · 01/07/2021 02:18

I wouldn't say he's looking too good.

Rhannion · 01/07/2021 02:50

@BIWI

Oh dear!

Newsreader on BBC1 just now said it was 'Bill Clinton'. A worse mistake, I think! Grin

I’m glad you heard that too because I thought I misheard her! 😀
MaBroon21 · 01/07/2021 03:28

He must smell quite a bit.

HoppingPavlova · 01/07/2021 03:36

Hilarious, thx. Christmas truly will be magical this year.

I bet Bill Clinton is also breathing a sigh of relief now he is freeGrin.

PyongyangKipperbang · 01/07/2021 03:52

Its not even close being "hilarious". The OP had an autocorrect error but in the meantime a man who abused women has bought his way out of jail.

Saddens and sickens me that so many people think that a typo is worth reacting to more than a rapist walking free.

MrsTerryPratchett · 01/07/2021 04:25

Ha fucking ha.

A prolific sex offender has received a tiny sentence.

Chortle. Money and power won.

Even though tens of women know he's a sex offender he's going free.

Arf.

knittingaddict · 01/07/2021 07:25

@TodClarty

Joking aside, I think its disgraceful. People are celebrating his release?? Its not like the verdict was wrong, he's an abuser.

Makes me sick.

It's awful isn't it. Let's hope we can have a serious thread about BC after this unfortunate attempt.
CandyLeBonBon · 01/07/2021 07:29

Really? Confused

knittingaddict · 01/07/2021 07:33

@Nutrafin

Having a statute of limitations on serious crimes is awful in itself. Such a fucked up country.
I was listening to a podcast a few days ago. In one particular state in the US in the 70's rape was a a misdemeanor offence and the statute of limitations was one year. This means that sentences were as low as mere months if convicted and if you didn't catch a rapist in one year they got away with it.

In reality I'm not sure it's much better now. I'm appalled at this decision.

LookItsMeAgain · 01/07/2021 07:35

@Pixxie7

Sorry meant Bill Crosby.
Nope.....try again......
knittingaddict · 01/07/2021 07:39

Call me uptight if you like, but I'm not enjoying the jokes on here. I can't see how the mistake in the op could have happened accidentally and if it was deliberate they should be ashamed. I think this thread should go and someone with more sense can start another one. Not every subject is fodder for a mn "hilarious" thread.

Pixxie7 · 01/07/2021 07:40

According to the lawyer last night his conviction is overturned therefore technically he is innocent and can claim recourse for his time spent in jail.

BeenAsFarAsMercyAndGrand · 01/07/2021 12:52

@SheldonesqueDoesNotBelongHere

No celebrations here flamingo

Some mistakes are amusing.

The reality of a technicality/procedural issue is a depressing thump back to reality.

Agreed. It's awful that a multiple rapist has been let out after so little time. An utter travesty.

But the OPs mistake was amusing nonetheless. We are allowed to hold more than one thought in our heads at once.

HoppingPavlova · 01/07/2021 12:56

Its not even close being "hilarious"

A long dead entertainer who everyone associated with Xmas being resurrected from the grave due to being proclaimed innocent and released = hilarious.

An ex-president who was never in jail being released due to being proclaimed innocent = ironic with a side of heavy humour.

A sex-offender and serial abuser being proclaimed innocent and released from jail = not funny and extremely disappointed.

The reaction depends on which scenario we are referring to.

In fairness I think it's because there's been a spate of "hilarious" fake autocorrect threads this week.
ExhaustedFlamingo · 02/07/2021 01:10

I did find the slip from the BBC journalist entertaining. I make no apologies for that.

For me, I think this thread was more amusing because I thought you’d all lost the bloody plot. Couldn’t work out what the hell you were on about….or why you were laughing.,.looked at the OP many times and failed to spot the autocorrects. And I work as a proofreader 😳😳😂😂 So I did have a chuckle to myself about the fact that I took ages to notice and about missing the glaring typos. A real slap head and groan moment.

But I can feel all of that, and even laugh about the silliness, while still feeling sickened to my soul that a prolific sex offender is out on a technicality. I was very very upset when I read the news, genuinely devastated for all those women assaulted by this pervert. Can you imagine being sexually assaulted by someone and then having to see the man on TV as this benign, friendly family guy, loved universally. I think I’d explode with rage and injustice. Those poor, poor women 😢

I am surprised there’s not a serious thread about the subject because honestly it’s a fucking disgrace.

There will be ramifications- others will try and use this as a precedent.

Well hallelujah for a white Christmas ☃️

all ExhaustedFlaMingo@ Apologise for my brain fog but this was intended as a serious question.

Two words on here really made my heart sink.

‘Technically innocent’

Being released on a technicality is a world away from being released because you are innocent of any crime.

Biker47 · 02/07/2021 10:20
@OrrisRoot

The state prosecutor agreed that in exchange for self incriminating testimony in Andrea's civil lawsuit against him he would not face any criminal charges in relation to her.

She received i think about 4 million in the civil case against him.

In his trial she was the only victim not outside the time limit of statute of limitations so they proceeded with that case.

Supreme Court has now had to uphold the original deal that he can't be prosecuted for the crime committed against her so he is free.

His other victims all took too long to ever come forward and so he cannot be charged in relation to them
He was also denied his 5th amendment right to not have to self-incriminate himself in criminal court, and subsequently the deposition he made for the civil case should have never been admitted into evidence to the criminal court.

ExhaustedFlamingo · 05/07/2021 05:27

@SheldonesqueTheBstard

Sorry, I've only just seen your reply. I couldn't agree with you more. When I was watching the news and seeing people celebrating his release, I felt sick. No one has said "oh hang on, we got the wrong guy here, there's been a miscarriage of justice". Everyone knows he did it, but he's wriggled out on a legal technicality.

I know I've laughed at the silliness of the misunderstanding about the name on this thread but I'm absolutely fucking raging about him being released, if I'm being honest. Those poor bloody women. So brave and for what?! I hope they know that we stand with them.
