You may have heard the story of Fran Lyon. If not, then this is a simplified version.

Fran is currently 31 weeks pregnant with her first baby
When Fran was sixteen years old, she was the victim of a serious sexual assault, and as a result, she suffered from mental health issues. She received therapy for two years, one year as an inpatient, and less than one following her discharge. She has not received or needed any mental health therapy since that time, and the psychiatrist that treated her has explicitly stated that she has no concerns whatsoever for Fran's mental health.

Unfortunately, early on in Fran?s pregnancy, there was a difficult situation with her (then) partner, and Fran called the police. Due to the nature of the problem and combined with the fact that Fran was pregnant, the police referred the case to social services. Fran was completely honest and open about her past mental health issues, and clear that she no longer suffered from any such problems. However, a ball had started rolling out of control, and a paediatrician, who has never actually met or spoken to Fran, has inexplicably suggested that she may in due course suffer from Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy. This has resulted in social services deciding that upon her birth, Fran?s baby daughter, Molly, will be taken away from her.

It is abundantly clear that Fran Lyon will be absolutely no danger to her baby, but we suggest that at the very least, Fran should at be allowed to stay in an assessment unit with her baby, Molly, pending an inevitable decision that she is capable of caring for her daughter independently.

Please take a few minutes to watch this clip of Fran being interviewed on This Morning: uk.youtube.com/watch?v=2qHcH_Eaocg

Please please sign the petition here: www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/539543596

Also, please could you copy and paste this post and send it as an email to as many people as possible, obviously feeling free to correct my crappy spelling and grammar!

Many Thanks

pm bump for evening incomers 359 & rising!

3andnomore · 09/11/2007 20:15

Whilst I feel for Fran, I would feel uneasy signing this petition. BUt I do hope for the best outcome for Fran and Molly!

Beenleigh · 09/11/2007 20:25

3, all the petition is asking for is that Fran is given a chance under supervision to look after her baby. It isn't asking that she be sent home from hospital like the rest of us are, with her beautiful new baby.
It really isn;t asking for a lot. Please read it again and please please sign it!

Oh Fran, I'm so glad this thread has been helpful even if it's just in a very tiny way. Bless you and bless Molly.

maximummummy · 09/11/2007 20:47

was just about to sign petition and filling in form when i found it had already filled in my age how the hell does that happen(computor illiterate) anyway it put me right off signing

Elizabetth · 09/11/2007 20:51

I think it defaults to 37, it did for me anyway. I don't mind knocking a few years off.

kindersurprise · 09/11/2007 20:54

maximum
That was just coincindence I think, it had me 4 years older than I am.

denbury · 09/11/2007 21:03

just signed it. the unborn child needs her mummy to.

Beenleigh · 09/11/2007 21:09

Oh my goodness, anyone that thinks it's a bit rough and tumble here should go over to the BBC chat rooms they are positively toxic. It's a holiday camp here. Hello how are you all? I feel all tense after that!!!

OP posts:
Elizabetth · 09/11/2007 21:22

Ugh, there are some very strong defenders of the system out there who appear to be happy to use all sorts of tactics.

This idea that there are always two sides to a story is a logical fallacy. There weren't two sides to Sally Clarke's case, there was one side that was right - that she didn't murder her children and the other side that was based on Roy Meadow's nonsensical claims.

fryalot · 09/11/2007 21:23

ooh, beenleigh, you were brave!

And you held your own, and got the message across. Well done. This story is getting out there, and that's a really good thing. The more people who know about what is happening to Fran, then the better chance there is of getting it overturned.

I have written a few letters, sent a few emails... haven't heard back from my MP yet, but got a note from his secretary person who confirmed that he has received my letter

Elizabetth · 09/11/2007 21:24

Just to add I think there are a lot of parents out there who feel they have been wrongly accused of MSbP by doctors and social workers who would disagree that there are "two sides". It suits social workers to claim that because they can always make an appeal to this mystery information that none of us lay people will ever know about.

It's even more of an argument to make the family courts open.

Beenleigh · 09/11/2007 21:31

Thanks Squonk. Phew, it's nice to be back here! I even resorted to correcting someones spelling just because they were obnoxious, which is a bit silly because mine's not very good, hopefully they won;t notice!

I haven't received anything back from anyone except for the odd we've received your email thing. Frustrating isn;t it.

Well done Beeny gawd they were ferocious!!

Never mind it stirred them up & might make others think & spread the details.

Beenleigh · 09/11/2007 22:33

A tired bump

Huggy Bump

Night Beeny- you've done a great job- keep going!!

385!

3andnomore · 09/11/2007 23:21

erm, you see, I would anyone only want to have the chance to have their child, if there are worries, if they are sure that there won;t be worried, and yes I am for mothers raising their children, but I am also for the child to be safe....
I just feel that there might be more to this then has come out....there muist be a reason that ss hold on to this despite the outroar....despite what people may think, I do believe that SW's , in general, have the childs/families interest at heart....

so, no, I still would feel uneasy about signing a petition like this.
Afterall this is cyberworld, we don't know fran in person, therefore we could be fed any info this person would want to feed us, leaving out that things they don't....
I hvae been misled and been "trolled" to often to just go for this....

bossybritches · 09/11/2007 23:31

Ok 3- you obviously haven't watched ALL the footage from Fran & ALL the info available. She has been on national TV & is supported by her colleagues (mental health workers themselves you think they don't knwo an unstable mum when they see one?) & is supported by an MP who I don't think would risk his political career if he wasn't damn sure he was backing a genuine case rather than a "troll"

It could be that the SS DON'T intend taking Molly form Fran but this is what she has been led to believe is going to happen, unbelievably cruel if so.

....and you have the right to disagree I suggest you just go on another thread please as this is a positive one & the debate can continue somewhere else. Thanks

3andnomore · 09/11/2007 23:41

good ness, dare I say I say that I won't sign a petition, eh...don't think I have said anything negative, tbh, just said that I feel uneasy as I don't know the person in question, and tbh, I dfon't trust the media etc...in general...can't say I have seen fran on TV or anything, or that I know that her colleages are all working in mental health!

3andnomore · 09/11/2007 23:44

anyywa, sorry the op was asking people to sign the petition, I said that I feel I can't but wish them well....maybe I should have opened another thread for that, but somehow I believe I would have been shouted at

Beenleigh · 09/11/2007 23:56

It doesn;t matter that you don't 'know' her, she could be the girl that works in your local shop or the library or the doctors surgery. She is a woman that is about to have her baby taken away from her. She is not guilty of any crime. She is a woman and a mother. She should be give a chance, that's all

OP posts:
edam · 10/11/2007 00:03

3, you are of course entitled to sign, not sign or post whatever you like.

You asked some questions, Bossy answered them - what's wrong with that? She's passionate about this case, as are many of us. Because we've seen huge miscarriages of justice along very similar lines and we don't want another Sally Clark (God rest her soul).

This crusade against mothers is a threat to all of us, frankly. None of the systemic failings that have been exposed in a series of miscarriages of justice have been addressed. There has been no inquiry, no assessment of exactly what on earth is going on here, no change to the system. Today it's Fran, tomorrow it could be any of us.

Beeny, bloody well done that woman!

Elizabetth · 10/11/2007 00:07

"She is not guilty of any crime. She is a woman and a mother. She should be give a chance, that's all."

Yes. This says it all.

Beenleigh you are a tireless fighter.

bossybritches · 10/11/2007 08:54

3and of course if you feel uneasy then don't sign-no pressure- but please discuss it with others to help spread the word & maybe they will.

Millie- I'm in tears reading your post. Unless SS are on bloody strong ground(VERY debatable) then this mental cruelty in leading Fran to believe what she does is beyond belief it is torture. Thank you for being there for her & give her our love.

Edam yes I am passionate about this case & the whole subject. My sister has said I'm like a terrier with a rag-doll!! I make no apologies for that. I have a brother with similar MH issues as Fran has had & it has struck all of our family that we could be facing the same sort of scenarios if SS decided he & his partner were unfit parents.

Beeny nearly 400!!
