It is the 40th anniversary of the abortion act and I do feel that there is a generation of 20-somethings who take this right for granted and are doing nothing whilst others seek to chip it away.

No, there aren't any instances of people being charged with harming unborn babies in this country, because an unborn baby has no legal identity. You could be charged with harming the mother.

A foetus might survive its mother's death. At the point when it is born, it becomes an independent human being, obviously.

foetus has no legal autonomy, and as such can not be conferred rights, or seek redress for treatment etc. foetus also is deemed not to have capacity. mother is the patient, and a ny decisions regarding the baby would have to consented to by the mum.
