Somehow Ds, 6, knows all about it by eavesdropping, and was telling me his views on babycare over the w/e...he will cuddle his babies, have them in bed with him, and take thm away in his caravan when he is a paleantologist.

cornsilk · 08/10/2007 11:04

I only know about it from the threadtitles on here - would have been blissfully oblivious otherwise.

Desiderata · 08/10/2007 11:06

I don't watch any programmes of that nature.

I've only seen Ms Verity once, on BBC news last week. My fleeting thought, as I idly flicked over to watch a cartoon, was that she's objectionably ugly ..

aaw, blu, he sounds lovely. dd is available, you know?

Truby King also "attacked those women who had entered the professions; he insisted that all women had a duty to the British empire and to the "race" to have lots of children; and he argued that the schools should train them for this task." (source).

If only CV had followed that advice, too, eh?!

Truby King is widely accused of being a big supporter of eugenics, he also advised toilet training from 2 weeks old, & how to prevent your child from masturbating. Somehow I hadn't put him in the elimination communication camp, must admit!

Also, all the references I can find say that TKing was originally inspired by farm experiences to believe that baby humans should be raised on the same regime that seemed to best suit baby cows. Which makes a lot of sense, really -- if you want to raise a stupid unaffectionate animal with a brain the size of a walnut, that is.

eh cod? You got me confused now.

Fair nuff.

Tinker · 08/10/2007 15:14

I watched it

Don't know anyone in RL who has (haven't discussed with anyone in RL)

But, I like getting het up about things.

I don't give a shit about C4s viewing figures but I'm pleased that this crazy woman is outed and am glad other people get angry about her.

BeetrootMNRoyalty · 08/10/2007 16:55

Hunker

they can edit to kingdom come to make it look far worse than it is.

She is a perorming for the cameras - getting n the bandwagon of instant fame.

Surely we all know that we take all this relaity car crash tv with a pinch of salt.? It has been proven time and time again what a load of cock it it

ruty · 08/10/2007 17:00

i think there are many impressionable and vulnerable parents who will think her ideas are legit and potentially helpful.

welliemum · 08/10/2007 19:15

Fair enuff cod!

Re editing: I know it's the instrument of the devil, but to get footage in my house of a newborn crying unattended for even 2 minutes, you'd have had to film both babies over a year each and then splice together 13 squillion crying episodes.

If the programme shows babies crying, they were crying. If they weren't being picked up, they weren't being picked up. Maybe they were picked up and cuddled the next time off camera, but that time they weren't.

Most of all, if CV is shown saying it's best to leave babies to cry and not pick them up and not cuddle them, that's what she said and that's the advice some viewers are going to take away to try.

Whether she means what she says or whether she's just saying it to make good telly, it's happening to actual babies.

hunkermunker · 08/10/2007 19:24

Yep, what Welliemum said.

AitchyBabesHugz2AllUHunnis · 08/10/2007 22:49

and they simply didn't edit the sequences where CV was standing outside the door saying, 'let them cry, i'm not going in there, they're not the boss of me' in one single continuous shot. as it happens, i saw a raw copy of the programme so i think i can say this with some certainty. interesting to note that the people who don't 'get it' largely haven't 'seen it', btw.
