we're just going round and round as a country. we don't seem to know our 'eads from our arses (strikethrough all that)

pointydog · 14/09/2007 23:07

that'sd be another thread - where were you when you heard Thatcher was dumped like a dirty dog?

startouchedtrinity · 14/09/2007 23:07

What we need is to get back to a society that has at least some empathy for one another.

BigGitDad · 14/09/2007 23:07

My point is there is no choice anymore of course unless you want to vote for the green party etc.

southeatsastras · 14/09/2007 23:11

you'll have to do it yourself

bigmouthstrikesagain · 14/09/2007 23:12

he mother of the nation has gone; she has hobbled off to her uncertain fate, having only a tycoon's salary given to her to fund the purchase of that monkey-shit-brown hair rinse we know so well. They act like nothing ever happened, but it did. It's too latetoo late for the thousands driven to mental illness, premature old age and suicide by the force-feeding to them of a daily diet of despair and the doctrine of their own obsolescence. Too late for the thousands of teenagers who grew up illiterate but unaccountably proud that their nation spent the money it could have been spent on educating them to buy gunsguns which this country is too feeble and unimportant to need to use.

It's too late to stop the rot--a rot she denied existed and which many thus forgot, which continued to accelerate and and now will not be stopped until all this fucking pretense is dropped. Mario Vargas Yoni, intellectual born-again right-wing son of a bitch from the exotic other end of the earth, Venus flytrap lips curling over straw-coloured front teeth, so smart, so alert, so elegant...admires the departed killer for her "courage". Tonight he speaks with Reggie Gurdjieff, most intelligent man in the UK, about new novel Shag Auntie Peggy, and on his plan for a junk bond issue to finance the privitization of the llama. But first, the bad weather...

Now these are the lyrics by the wonderful Fatima Mansions summing up my feelings (and their other 10 fans ) on 'her' departure...

BigGitDad · 14/09/2007 23:15

Of course if money was no object I would stand up for what I believe, mind you what if I got elected!? Fair play to the likes of Martin Bell, any one who got David Soul to campaign for them has done well!!

southeatsastras · 14/09/2007 23:18

start in local government. though i think you have to be in the round table or masons for a starter

Tortington · 14/09/2007 23:19

it is wrong to say that MT is great becuase the labour govt before her was incompetant

southeatsastras · 14/09/2007 23:21

didn't they say that about hitler

startouchedtrinity · 14/09/2007 23:21

I wonder how the BBC would cope with the BigGitDad party?

Gobbledigook · 14/09/2007 23:36

'She used the police as her private f*cking henchmen during the miners' strike, twisting the law beyond all recognition.'

Yeah, of course if you were having a load of bricks thrown at you you'd just stand there, right? Sorry, but I was a child seeing it from the other pov.

Gobbledigook · 14/09/2007 23:37

And I'm bloody pissed off now that I even bothered my arse to post on this pathetic thread.

Pan · 14/09/2007 23:38

Gobble - I was there, as an adult. That is exactly what she did.

startouchedtrinity · 14/09/2007 23:40

I remember it being a very frightening time.

But then I also remember having no power and the streets being full of uncollected rubbish and vermin b/c of the lot before her.

And I have watched an elderly gentleman being ejected from the Labour party conference because he voiced his disagreement.

Good lord we have voted in a load of to**ers down the years.

bigmouthstrikesagain · 14/09/2007 23:41

MT cast a huge shadow - she - and Big Ron in the US shaped our futures and we what they sold off and brought down can never be replaced.

A First Past the Post electoral system will never allow for anything other than our adversarial 2 party set up. Only electoral reform on the scale of the scottish/ welsh parliaments (proprtional representation in some form) will enable a 'new' political environment in the UK.

At least Thatcher gave comedians some great materialWonderful as The thick of it' is I miss the crass lampooning of Spitting Image

startouchedtrinity · 14/09/2007 23:43

I think the Govt have tamed the media to the extent that no-one would dare do Spitting Image these days.

bigmouthstrikesagain · 14/09/2007 23:44

That post sounds like i am some demented PR fan from the Lib Dems - def not the case - just a bit of thinking aloud from someone with a politics degree

bigmouthstrikesagain · 14/09/2007 23:46

You have a point there Star touched trinity. Our politicians are far too meejaa aware - Can you imagine Michael Foot and his Donkey jacket in no. 10 as PM - pmsl!

Monkeytrousers · 14/09/2007 23:48

Am I being stupid? Why to confusion about 'conviction politician'?

MrsMarvel · 14/09/2007 23:49

Glad to see everyone so passionate this evening!

I'd say MT is a conviction politician because she made many major changes in our Society (which actually was a collection of individuals). The changes were all designed to make the rich richer and the poor poorer. As a result, many of the poor were convicted.

bigmouthstrikesagain · 14/09/2007 23:57

Ahh I see uqd made the first convicted/ conviction reference and with that acknowledgement I say g'night

MrsMarvel · 15/09/2007 00:00

Oh bugger I missed something again.

EffiePerine · 15/09/2007 08:25

'we've voted in a bunch of tossers over the years' - a great summing up of UK politics 1950-2007

Is this the thread you come on if you are a Tory and want to snuggle up close to like-minded people?
