Madeleine McCann

Instead of starting lots of new posts about Madeleine, could I politely request that anyone who wants to post on the subject please post on this one thread? (N.B. Duplicate threads may be flamed hysterically.)

Please note that this thread is not to criticise Madeleine's parents or family, as this is not in the spirit of Mumsnet.

Please can I take the liberty to quote from this article:

"This is the real life of Kate and Gerry McCann, and it must now have become a place of agony beyond all understanding. Pity them, if you have any compassion at all, and demonstrate the minimum of grace: the ability to desist from judgment."

likeness i mean & 1st lol

LaBoheme · 26/09/2007 14:15

I have got a funny feeling about this - I think it could be her. However it's unfortunately random, and I doubt if they could trace this group of what look like Nomads in the desert.

noddyholder · 26/09/2007 14:15

I don't understand why they let the picture out as imo it puts her at risk if it is her which I doubt.

LieselVentouse · 26/09/2007 14:16

I live in small place outside of Glasgow and a few weeks ago in my local supermarket a lady questioned me about my DD1 about her resemblance to MM, i dont think she looks anything like her - for a start she has blue eyes, so i can understand why there have been so many sighings - a little four yr old with blond hair and blue eyes - fair enough in Morocco with their colouring this might look out of place.

wannaBe · 26/09/2007 14:19

wo. looking at pictures that might be Madeleine is one thing, but trying to establish if another child in the group might also be an abducted child is quite another.

ScoobyDooooo · 26/09/2007 14:26

Wannabe i was just showing what i had seen elsewhere on the net, not getting into a petty argument with you, your a negative person who needs to lighten up a bit.

Anyway of to pick up my lovely ds have fun all.

PinkChick · 26/09/2007 14:30

can i just lighten the mood slightly(i know this is no joke!), but my dd saw a sign today for a missing cat, her school church also has a missing sign for Madeleine, tied with yellow ribbon to the tree ingarden..dd said"mummy, you know that cat that smissing?,, yes?..and you know madeleine mccanns still missing?..yes??, well dya think the cat has gone to the same place as MAdeleine and theyll both be together so theyre not lonely?..shes only 4 and we live in UK, but the things that go through childrens heads!

wannaBe · 26/09/2007 14:37

lol pc .

scooby no-one was trying to pick an argument, people are entitled to their opinions, and what's written on this site doesn't even come close to some of the stuff that's written elsewhere on the net.

I am not being negative I am being relistic, and realistically, the chances of that child being Madeleine are billions to And realistically, if that child is Madeleine, the chances of her being found again are remote, by virtue of the fact she was seen with nomads, people who are not generally exposed to the media and therefore would be unlikely to ever know that pictures of them had been screened across the world.

There have been many more sightings than this, in Malta, in Belgium, in Morrocco, even in Wales FGS, there's no more chance of this being Madeleine than any of the other sightings.

Wolfgirl · 26/09/2007 14:38

PC, I love the things kids say too. my DS is nearly 4. at the weekend my neighbours car was smashed into by joy riders; it was a mess, all over the road etc. DS wanted to see what the fuss was about, so I showed him. A bit later, whilst we neighbours still outside chatting (cos my car damaged too), DS shouts from the doorstep...'mummy, shall I get some glue'

awwwrrr...

anyway, back to nature of thread.

layman · 26/09/2007 15:09

I think this picture is fake. I do think it is Madeleine but it's the photo from the campaign.

Why is her hair the same after all this time. Are they expert hairdressers?

If she has been 'bought' by this family surely it would be to work. But no she's on someones back.

I doubt if they wanted a child to love they would have the money to buy a blonde -haired, blue-eyed child. Hardly the socio-economic group to do this. If they did surely it would be within their own race, pinched far more easily than MM.

It's more rot from the papers.

I do think that MM is alive and will be re-united with her folks. I think they are very well connected people and we don't have the full story.

chikenmother · 26/09/2007 15:23

Do you believe in angels? Could an angel be out there leading us to bring her home? There has been so many prayers, who knows? I would love it to be true. We need good things to give us back hope in human kind!

lornaloo · 26/09/2007 15:50

l.Aparently its not madeleine its a local girl.

allgonebellyup · 26/09/2007 15:51

chikenmother - er i dont think so

Wolfgirl · 26/09/2007 15:52

lornaloo - has that just been announced on the news?

noddyholder · 26/09/2007 15:55

Surprise it isn't her but what excellent work drumming up more sympathy from tehir PR Apparently they have know of the photo for a while They are unbelievable in their ceaseless pr stunts

lornaloo · 26/09/2007 15:57

Yes.

lornaloo · 26/09/2007 16:00

Its unbelievable isnt it. As if they would really release the photo before checking it out. Its just shocking.

noddyholder · 26/09/2007 16:03

If the picture has been known to them for a while what are they still doing here?I would have been in Morocco like a shot.Their new PR is good thats for sure but his stunts always fizzle out really quickly.

kookaburra · 26/09/2007 16:07

NoddyH - yes - isn't it. Wonder what new stunt will be in tomorrow's papers? looks like Clarence is working hard for the double-glazing fella's dosh.

NAB3 · 26/09/2007 16:09

It's not her.

binkleandflip · 26/09/2007 16:09

my thought is that the McCanns had nothing to do with her dissapearance other than their obvious negligence.

I dont know whether she is still alive but I doubt that at this point she will ever be traced. I know there are cases where children have turned up years later but they are in the very minority.

I'm not surprised the child in the photo isnt her - in fact I'm glad it is a local girl because I doubt it would have been investigated further once the Madeleine connection had been ruled out and that frightens me.

I feel for the parents. I am over my anger at their selfish and thoughtless behaviour but I am still gutted for Madeleine and them too now.

lornaloo · 26/09/2007 16:16

It seems to be a hopeless case, and has been from the start. It doesnt stop me hoping that there will be some kind of breakthrough that will solve the case but I think its very unlikely. Its been so long now, 146 days!! And no trace, its hopeless.

kookaburra · 26/09/2007 16:22

But all this hype is counter-productive, and causing a backlash against the parents. When I saw the papers this morning, I put aside my scepticism and hoped that maybe just maybe there was something in it. I now feel foolish and like we've all been 'had' - again.
I think the parents are very badly advised and this publicity-fest is alienating their natural constituency of supporters - ie other parents.
Having said they would not leave Portugal without M - 24 hours after the police questioned them they had scarpered - and got themselves top extradition lawyers

furReal · 26/09/2007 16:42

So it's not Madeleine, and the parents have known about this for a while, so it was all a publicity stunt really then.

Takes the attention nicely away from the parents being suspects doesn't it? Except there's a real risk of this blowing up in their faces if they're not careful, there's only so many times the media will report false lead after false lead.

LieselVentouse · 26/09/2007 16:47

Thats very unfair
