Madeleine McCann

Instead of starting lots of new posts about Madeleine, could I politely request that anyone who wants to post on the subject please post on this one thread? (N.B. Duplicate threads may be flamed hysterically.)

Please note that this thread is not to criticise Madeleine's parents or family, as this is not in the spirit of Mumsnet.

Please can I take the liberty to quote from this article:

"This is the real life of Kate and Gerry McCann, and it must now have become a place of agony beyond all understanding. Pity them, if you have any compassion at all, and demonstrate the minimum of grace: the ability to desist from judgment."

but in reality it's all speculation isn't it. People want to believe she's been taken to north africa because they don't want to believe the alternative.

kitsandbits · 26/09/2007 10:05

Yes, but people cant help that can they

Its a possibility though, likr the family that was on GMTV when this all started they believe their son was taken by travvelers and is a happy adult somewhere.

I just hope that poor family find out one way or another so they dont spend the rest of their lives waiting and wondering

wannaBe · 26/09/2007 10:07

but it's highly unlikely she's been taken by another family. If a child was going to be taken for the purposes of illegal adoption, they would have taken one of the twins, because younger children are far easier to pass off as your own.

In fact that avenue of enquiry was ruled out before any other I believe.

wannaBe · 26/09/2007 10:09

Ben Needham. they believe he was taken to be sold into illegal adoption to a wealthy family. but he was only 22 months old, far easier to "adopt" a 22 month old and pass that child off as your own, not so with a 4 year old who probably knows her name and address.

Frizbe · 26/09/2007 10:14

ah but as a theory, if you have a child that you need to loose, who better to give it to for a while, some random moroccan travellers, who need to earn cash/are happy to accept payment, to look after a child for 'an ammount of time' a child who they have no knowledge of as missing, they are travellers, probably don't bother with the news much and are doing a job for money? just a thought....

totaleclipse · 26/09/2007 10:15

unless the intention was to take one of the twins and Madeleine woke up, and the intruder panicked and took her too, it may have been someone who Madeleine could of described, recognised in a photo ect.

totaleclipse · 26/09/2007 10:16

took her instead even, not too

noddyholder · 26/09/2007 10:22

If it was her I doubt the photo would be in the press and there would be police searching for her All this publicity would just give the kidnappers 'time' to disappear which makes me thing the photo was released by the mcganns and not the police.

totaleclipse · 26/09/2007 10:31

McCanns

HorribleHorace · 26/09/2007 10:33

i don't think it's her, although i hope it is, it would be the best of a bad lot of scenarios, i do think this child looks to young. And you do occasionaly get fair haired children in North Africa. it's unusual but not impossible.

I think someone here emailed the Moroccan embassy, i know people who have been in Tunisia and seen pictures of Madeleine. But these people are likely to be way out in the sticks somewhere, so if it is her, chances are they don't know it.

wannaBe · 26/09/2007 10:35

That theory doesn?t make sense though. If someone had broken into the apartment to take one child and the older one had been awake, they would have just left surely, and the older child would have just thought they were burglers, and although she might have been able to give a description, by then they would have been over the border and long gone, whereas if they took a 4 year old child with them they would know they wouldn?t be able to sell her, especially not once the publicity took off which was only a matter of days.

And given illegal adoption rackets are all about money, once the reward was offered they could have given the info re her whereabouts, passed her back to the family and walked away with the reward.

There has been enough money involved in this that anyone taking Madeleine with money in mind would have had plenty of motivation to give her back.

totaleclipse · 26/09/2007 10:39

I dont know, who knows how a child abduters mind works, and if selling a child was the plan, for some sales, the age does'nt matter

Susianna · 26/09/2007 10:43

Does anyone still have the picture with her Pj's on it, I'm trying to remember what they were like, she's wearing something pink in the picture. Though doubt she would still be wearing the same pair of pjs after all this time...

I think it looks a lot like her, but of course that's just me.

ScoobyDooooo · 26/09/2007 10:47

Picture of her pj's here if you scroll down here

Susianna · 26/09/2007 10:48

No I found it, it doesn't look like the same garment...one thing at least is that the child in the photo doesn't look distressed
So if it is her, that is something.

Susianna · 26/09/2007 10:49

/thanks scoob, x-posts!

NAB3 · 26/09/2007 10:51

Does anyone know what is happening? Are the photos being analysed. Is someone going to Morocco. I can't help hoping........

Roo77 · 26/09/2007 10:57

I am praying they find her soon and get her back to her mother, poor little child. My heart aches for all abducted children and their parents.

ScoobyDooooo · 26/09/2007 10:57

The pic is being analyised by interpol etc but it was taken 26 days ago.

PinkChick · 26/09/2007 10:59

that little girl looks very young.

Wolfgirl · 26/09/2007 11:00

I just looked at the photo, from this site

here

they are SOOOOOOOOO NOT women. just look at the person carrying the child, look at his frame, his legs etc. Now admittedly, Ive not seen Morrocan ladies in their clad, and I know the pic is a little out of focus...but still. And! and! and! look at the length of the child, yes she does look young, but she is too tall for a 2 year old!

Sleuthing over.

HorribleHorace · 26/09/2007 11:06

that picture is actually really strange if you really look at it. None of them look like they belong together.

Only the one carrying the child is in traditional dress. They just look odd. It would look less odd if they were all dressed like that, I think.

god, I hope it's her

totaleclipse · 26/09/2007 11:10

also if you compare her head size to the boy (i think) in front, you weill see she could easily be a 4 yr old, and remember she has not long turned 4.

kitsandbits · 26/09/2007 11:11

The 'woman' in the black loves like Davis Walliams off little britain when he dresses up laike a laydeee, lol

kitsandbits · 26/09/2007 11:11

looks
