Instead of starting lots of new posts about Madeleine, could I politely request that anyone who wants to post on the subject please post on this one thread? (N.B. Duplicate threads may be flamed hysterically.)

Please note that this thread is not to criticise Madeleine's parents or family, as this is not in the spirit of Mumsnet.

Please can I take the liberty to quote from this article:

"This is the real life of Kate and Gerry McCann, and it must now have become a place of agony beyond all understanding. Pity them, if you have any compassion at all, and demonstrate the minimum of grace: the ability to desist from judgment."

OP posts:
haychee · 12/09/2007 21:36

Still being honest, there is nothing missing in my life. But thanks for your genuine concern.

WideWebWitch · 12/09/2007 21:37

I'd start another thread amadiawish.
where you will undoubtedly get a slagging for even thinking about it

dinny · 12/09/2007 21:37

put the kids all in the big house and move them when the small house people go to bed?

haychee · 12/09/2007 21:37

What exactly is there to "enjoy" is this whole awful saga?

Baffy · 12/09/2007 21:37

agree with dinny

that's all I have to add to this thread

WideWebWitch · 12/09/2007 21:38

Haychee I didn't say it was genuine concern, I made a suggestion wrt your reasons for such a need

ScoobyDooooo · 12/09/2007 21:38

Yes you could have some respect & maybe debate about the rights or wrongs after this case is closed & maybe Madeleine is found, this is a tragic & totally awful situation & i think the last thing you should be doing is ranting on about what was right & what was wrong that night.

There is a time & a place you know!

Desiderata · 12/09/2007 21:39

Olive ... flange (certainly in my neck of the woods) has always been a word for cock cheese.

fabbylucesmum · 12/09/2007 21:39

This is the first time I have posted on MN. I wont be repeating it! I only started it as am at work (Child and Family social Worker!) and felt perhaps I could contribute something useful! never again. I have never encountered such ridiculousness!

Pedanticandproud · 12/09/2007 21:39

Well there is a difference with baby monitors in use, I think.

WideWebWitch · 12/09/2007 21:39

this is me but I'm blonde

donnie · 12/09/2007 21:39

it's all still going I see. All the vultures still picking at the meat and bickering over the gristle.

This thread makes me sick. Why don't you all just realise how lucky you are and drop it.

Puke city.

Blu · 12/09/2007 21:40

Haychee - but one of the problems of endless discussion is that somewhere along the line someone's comment which was a suggestion, question or wild idea gets adopted in people's minds as a real fact or possibility. Misinformation spreads like wildfire...and before you know it, people are forming very damaging opinipons of people based on nothing more than wild speculation and prejudice. And that matters because once people are splattered with a clouded reputation, however unjustified, it is very very hard for them to live their lives free of that slur again.

I don't want to ever play any small part in unjustly slurring someone. 'If' K McC is innocent? There is no evidence that we know of, that has been published by a reliable source, that would lead to any other conclusion. There is, sadly, plenty of mis-information, plenty of misunderstood information - and more than enough subjective judgement based on how someone looks or behaves.

I just don't ever want to be part of unjustly slurring anyone. It isn't worth the risk.

haychee · 12/09/2007 21:41

Just because you dont feel the need does not mean it does not exist. It clearly does exist in everyone who came onto this thread!

And yet you have options now to avoid the thread "no in the news" and your still here

I would consider your own motives imo

amidaiwish · 12/09/2007 21:41

thanks... may start a thread closer to the time.
might invest in a video monitor! surely we can't get better than that ?

Desiderata · 12/09/2007 21:41

Sorry! Wasn't thinking .. I've been on another thread

Flange is fanny cheese.

beansprout · 12/09/2007 21:42

Yes, but I am not speculating.

wannaBe · 12/09/2007 21:42

ok, so maybe wrong to debate whether this particular family were wrong to leave the children until the case is closed (if ever), but is it wrong to debate whether anyone should leave small children? out of respect? what if the case is never closed?

Surely the point is a valid one, and if this case makes people think twice then that at least is one good thing that has come out of it.

BeetrootBevan · 12/09/2007 21:43

fabby - how did you find MN? did you google MM?

MN is a bright witty caring community but it has been overtaken by txt speaking CSI freaks - who have nothing better to do than gossip and make up sotories

Check out the other threads - you might find some fun.

Or are you just another one searching for info on MM?

Blu · 12/09/2007 21:43

LOL - WWW - you see how people make judgements and assumptions about looks and character? I have never imagined you as blonde.

Guilty as charged, yer onour. Take me down!

WideWebWitch · 12/09/2007 21:43

fabbylucesmum the fact that you're a child and family social worker is much more worrying to me than the fact that you'll never be posting on mn again. Given your posts and the fact that you consider this 'ridiculousness'

Pedanticandproud · 12/09/2007 21:43

Fabby I am sorry you have been upset. There are a lot of "old-timers" who think that it is not acceptable to discuss this case. I do not know why this is - but the policy is to kill the threads and be nasty and vitriolic to anyone who ventures to suggest that leaving children home alone is a less than good idea.

I think if people don't want to discuss it - they should get off the thread - rather than try and bully people into submission.

Just my view.

beansprout · 12/09/2007 21:43

Thanks wannabe - I should have realised that you were just being public spirited

BeetrootBevan · 12/09/2007 21:44

Hyachee - osme of us want to discuss real news - this htread should be in a seperate place - perhpas under Gossip

Kathyis6incheshigh · 12/09/2007 21:46

WWW I agree. Given that she doesn't seem to know the difference between 'fact' and 'opinion'.
