Madeline Case - Have I just heard right?

MrsPuddleduck · 07/09/2007 13:01

I'm sure I just heard on Sky news that police have found traces of Madeline's blood in a hire care rented five weeks after she disappeared?

Am I right or did I hear wrong?

How can it be so?

apparently so

lulumama · 07/09/2007 13:03

there is another huge thread about it

Niecie · 07/09/2007 13:07

Sky seem to know more than the BBC on this one. Just looked at both news pages and the Sky one definitely mentions finding the blood.

Still trying to keep an open mind but it is getting difficult with stories like that.

MrsPuddleduck · 07/09/2007 13:10

I feel really shocked.

They must have something on Kate as opposed to Gerry as they seem to be questioning her more.

Thanks lulumama I have just found the other thread.

i don't understand that, how can they have found traces of her blood from a car hired so long afterwards? Genuinely don't understand, does anyone else?

Niecie · 07/09/2007 13:14

I think that the implication is that they killed her and then moved her body at a later date. Don't quite know how they did that with cameras following every second of the day.

newgirl · 07/09/2007 13:14

i am really concerned about the portugese police - i dont trust them to get this right - they seem to be making it up as they go along

HorribleHorace · 07/09/2007 13:15

sorry but i think the Portugese police are crackers. They have got this wrong. Poor woman

I think they have chosen Kate over her husband because apparently sniffer dogs smelt the scent of a corpse on her clothes. I believe I heard that they were British police dogs so it is not solely the work of Portugese police.

It is all speculation at the moment though isn't.

I just really really hope the McCann's haven't been taking us for a ride all these months.

MrsPuddleduck · 07/09/2007 13:18

I truly hope that they have got it wrong.

Surely the police have checked who had the hire car in the 25 days between Maddy going missing and the blood being found?

I really can't get my head around this.

OP posts:
Niecie · 07/09/2007 13:20

I suspect that as the McCann's weren't suspect they didn't think to check a hire car that was hired after Maddie went missing. The arrival of the British Police seems to have stirred up all this new DNA evidence.

Furball · 07/09/2007 13:27

How do they know it was a corpse the dogs smelt on the clothes? The dog couldn't exactly say that

Niecie · 07/09/2007 13:28

I think they are trained to sniff out bodies in the same way some are trained to sniff out drugs.

MaureenMLove · 07/09/2007 13:29

ITV1 now

lissielou · 07/09/2007 13:43

but also

MrsPuddleduck · 07/09/2007 13:46

I hadn't heard that sniffer dogs had smelt a corpse on Kate's clothes .

Surely to God they didn't manage to smuggle a 25 day old corpse into a car what with all the press attention?

OP posts:
Niecie · 07/09/2007 13:54

That was what I was wondering. There must have been a camera with them 24hours a day.

I was thinking that they may have had an accomplice but now I am getting into the murky realms of pure speculation and I am not very proud of myself so I am going to stop and stick to what is reported.

HorribleHorace · 07/09/2007 13:55

Willmouse - it may not have been a body that transferred the blood. It could have been clothing/bedding or something.

RomySchneider · 07/09/2007 13:56

The Portuguese police have a strong interest that the case is resolved and that Madeleine wasn't abducted.

Piffle · 07/09/2007 13:58

Bear in mind it was BRITISH forensic teams which tested the car AFAIK

noddyholder · 07/09/2007 14:03

I think it is most likel;y that he is covering for her as I don't think a mother copuld cover for a father in the same way and would probably have cracked by now.I do think the police must have some pretty concrete forensics to do this esp as they have taken so long. If you look at the evidence and sequence of events closely there was never really the opportunity for anyone outside the group to do this although it is horrific

McEdam · 07/09/2007 14:06

Sky broadcasts rumours and then corrects them later. So I wouldn't take any 'facts' in Sky coverage of a fast-moving story as 100 per cent correct. Demonstrated by coverage of the Twin Towers when they broadcast all sorts of rubbish that was downright wrong. The BBC double checks its facts and only reports things that have been confirmed by two sources. And as far as I can see, they are not being half as hysterical as Sky.

doggiesayswoof · 07/09/2007 14:07

It makes no sense at all. V sceptical about this.

TBH I have better things to do than speculate about what may or may not have happened - tis gruesome.

MrsPuddleduck · 07/09/2007 14:17

I didn't know that blood could be from clothes or bedding - which would make more sense.

I think the problem is the whole portugese secrecy thing. It makes you think they're doing nothing or doing a bad job which probably isn't the case at all.

If this was happening in the UK the police would have kept the press and public updated all of the way which limits the amount of speculation.
