here is the link news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/beds/bucks/herts/6960590.stm

Why is there so many people being shot? why are these people even walking around with guns? there seems to have been alot of shootings over the past 2 weeks, what a world we live in.

I don't there were as many 11/13/15 year olds involved though

TheQueenOfQuotes · 23/08/2007 20:51

Nadine - if you have a search through the BBC news website for murders invovlings guns (you've have to trawl quite a long way as there's about 20 stories on single incidents) you'll find there's a large number of older victims AND perptrators. (sorry can't spell lol)

Also lets not forget that a "firearms offence" - doesn't mean that they've actually shot someone with a gun.

Ooo note I'm quoting QoQ

But had they not been caught they probably would at some point.

but firearms offences can include carrying a replica weapon.....and even the Government itself estimates there could be as many at 500,000 replicas on the streets!

TheQueenOfQuotes · 23/08/2007 21:00

"# The police say that in 2003 replica firearms were used in an estimated 60% of robberies and four out of five of all firearms offences.

Nearly three quarters (72%) of firearms seized by the Metropolitan Police Service in 2003 under Operation Trident, set up to tackle gun crime within London?s black communities, were replicas, air guns, or starter pistols."

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 23/08/2007 21:02

And air rifles QoQ and I know I mention this alot but my dd's friend was killed by an air rifle, all be it accidentally.

But it's the thin end of the wedge surely. If you feel the need to carry a replica there's probably a point where you feel the need to exchange it fo the real thing.

TheQueenOfQuotes · 23/08/2007 21:19

perhaps not (sorry I know this is supposed to be a serious thread and all...)

UCM · 23/08/2007 21:25

Well I hung out in Letchworth with black guys in the 80's and there were not any guns. Knives maybe (and very rarely), but not guns.

Its not getting any worse then.

TheQueenOfQuotes · 23/08/2007 21:28

I've just found 2 more (recent) stories on the BBC about shootings which did NOT involve ANYONE that was "young". Of course there's only short stories about these incidents with virtually no "follow" up ones (whereas almost ALL of the ones that have involved young people have got numerous follow-ups......perhaps THAT is why it appears that most shooting incidents occur among the young???
