....it does you make you wonder if mattel have this problem just how much wider spread it could be

ds has a collection of 'cars' cars, have checked on the web site and ours are ok.

dd's polly pockets are all affected, but the problem with the magnets falling out, we already knew about that. she got her first magnetic pp's over 2 years ago, and some of the magnets fell out straight away, we just superglued them back in. they are all kept in her bedroom so ds doesn't have access to them, he's more likely to put little bits in his mouth and potentially swallow than dd is (i hope!), so not sure what to do about it. dd would be really upset if we told her we had to send away all of her polly pockets, she loves them.

also, if you do return the toys, how are mattel compensating?, there is at least £50 worth of pp stuff.

zippitippitoes · 15/08/2007 08:20

I don't know how they are compensating ...andf what if you buy something in a cr boot or something presumable they have to give the same to everyone as people won't have the packaging in any case

In Oz they are giving refunds. Luckily we don't have any of the affected items or DD would have been distraught at losing her PP stock. There'll probably be a hideous PP shortage in the run up to Christmas now and I was going to get DD a mega-set. Grrr.

PinkChick · 15/08/2007 08:30

i've just been told the guy in cahrge of their production has killed himself!

MamaG · 15/08/2007 08:32

Poor man

I'm not sending DD's polly stuff back, like lucykate, I have a younger DS but they are all kept in DD's room in the loft, he doesn't have access to them.

zippitippitoes · 15/08/2007 08:33

oh that is terrible if true...how tragic

OP posts:
PinkChick · 15/08/2007 08:35

i'll have to search for the full detail but it appears he knew the product/paint he was using was not adequate / harmful and went ahead to save money??..like i say will have to check that...

popsycal · 15/08/2007 08:37

it is true - on bbc news

islandofsodor · 15/08/2007 10:54

I checked the Dora stuff but dd doesn't have any. I took ds's James out ready to send back but it has now disapeared.

However I havn't seen the new list. Can someone link to it?

MerlinsBeard · 15/08/2007 10:57

as far as i can tell (and some friends who have been affected) there is no refund being offered. just to discontinue using the toys.
Of course i may be wrong.

cupcakes · 15/08/2007 10:59

here's a list

Gobbledigook · 15/08/2007 11:04

Oh FGS, half of our 'cars' - Sally, Ramone, Lightning, Nitro, Sheriff - all recalled.

At least they've still got Mater, another Lightning and a green Ramone

Kids are gutted

LIZS · 15/08/2007 11:05

isn't it only Sarge though ?
service.mattel.com/uk/recall/recall_info.asp

MerlinsBeard · 15/08/2007 11:06

gdg, where does it say about other cars? i have only seen Sarge mentioned.

tbh unless your children make point of chewing their toys or the paint is chiped on them then i think you are fine.

MerlinsBeard · 15/08/2007 11:09

have just read the bbc link and it says all cars toys with a serial number ending 7EA. just checked what i can find of the boys and its nitroade and the pig one -the boys faves

Mercy · 15/08/2007 11:11

Hurray - I can get rid of Polly Pocket at last!

Had to get rid of a couple of Thomas signals in the last round up - ds hasn't noticed.

MerlinsBeard · 15/08/2007 11:12

what ar ethe thomas ones? haven't seen that recall

Mercy · 15/08/2007 11:15

Thomas the Toxic Engine

MerlinsBeard · 15/08/2007 11:17

thanks mercy. luckily we don'thave those thomas ones.

popsycal · 15/08/2007 11:21

omg where does it say the rest of the cars
we have tons

oyur sarge is ok - mattel already eailed me back

crikey there will be hell on with ds2 if others are affected
GDG - where

popsycal · 15/08/2007 11:24

nearly all ours have 7EA on the end

popsycal · 15/08/2007 11:27

it is only sarge

MerlinsBeard · 15/08/2007 11:33

only sarge not the others with 7EA on the end?

popsycal · 15/08/2007 11:45

It says only Sarge. We have lots of others wit 7EA on.

I have emailed Mattel again just to be sure. Everywhere is just saying Sarge though.

SlightlyMadSpider · 15/08/2007 11:48

I think that list only considers the toys recalled in teh latest batch.
