interesting they returned their verdict so quickly
they couldn't have been in too much doubt about his guilt

edam · 02/08/2007 16:56

Oh heavens, that's so sad. That poor girl. And those poor children.

Ming, he admitted having sex with her but claimed it was after she was 16.

foxinsocks · 02/08/2007 16:57

his poor children, and his wife. Wonder if they had any idea.

edam · 02/08/2007 16:57

Ah, I see the judge directed the jury to clear him on the rape charges. So the not guilty verdict is for legal reasons - at any rate, the jury didn't get the chance to decide on it.

WendyWeber · 02/08/2007 16:58

He's been remanded in custody; is that usual?

I would hate to be on the jury in a case where it's basically 2 people testifying against each other and no proof either way - one of them will be damaged by the verdict whichever way it goes. At least with the porn there could be no doubt.

KezzaG · 02/08/2007 16:59

OMG M&J that story is terrible, I am genuinely speechless. Thank goodness the comments underneath echoed the thoughts of most sane people and no one agreed with her.

UCM · 02/08/2007 16:59

He will get a 3 month jail sentence and a rehabilitation order.

I doubt if anyone will employ him to act again though. His poor wife & kids. How on earth does she start to deal with it assuming they were unaware.

UCM · 02/08/2007 17:00

Remanded as people would find him and attack him I bet. After all he is sort of well known.

That was kinda my sentiments WendyWeber. I have not followed the case closely enough to have an opinion as to whether he is guilty of the second charge. If he is, then it is very sad that he has got away with it. Our justice system should be able to find the truth, though I am obviously aware that this is not always the case. Hopefully the girl will be offered counselling and will be able to find some wasy of moving on with her life, which is the most important for her I guess.

aloha · 02/08/2007 17:04

WEll, he's been found guilty and will be sent to prison, so I would think it would be highly unusual NOT to remand him in custody.

MingMingtheWonderPet · 02/08/2007 17:05

I too would hate to be on the jury for such a case.
Can you be forced into doing so?

ShrinkingViolet · 02/08/2007 17:08

WW I did jury service last year, and the case we got was one person's word against the other - most of us were convinced he'd done it but the prosecution didn't put up a "beyond reasonable doubt" case so we had to let him off. Similar kind of situation to this one, but (fortunately) nowhere near as bad. Still horrible though.

I think if it's expected to be really bad, you can ask not to be assigned to it, and be put back into the jury pool, same as if a trial is expected to last beyond the two weeks you're there for.

I think "making an indecent image" includes downloading, becasue you're "making" the image on your hard drive. I would imagine it goes all the way up to actually taking a photo as well though.

SpawnHorcrux · 02/08/2007 17:11

fio 'making indecent pictures' = downloading iirc

15

ShrinkingViolet · 02/08/2007 17:14

so do you need to print it out to have "made" the image, then?
