poor thing. On the upside (if there is one) the report says kidnappings are usually ransom based rather than anything more sinister.

mummylin2495 · 05/07/2007 13:22

Even thoguht they state that most kidnap victims are released unharmed ,the poor little girl must be so frightened, breaks your heart dosent it.

Suedonim is out near there isn't she (or is she in Lagos - can't remember which).

Hulababy · 05/07/2007 13:29

Poor little thing, she must be feeling so scared and beildered. Please let her be released safe and unharmed very soon. Her parents must be beside themselves

CodOVeneer · 05/07/2007 13:29

How sad, but as the news report states, there is every reason to beleive she will be released once ransom is paid (it is all about money, nothing to do with politics or religion). This is the reason my father turned downa highly paid job in Nigeria, for fear of something happening to my mother, my sister or myself if we lived out there. Even getting out of the county through the airport invovles bribes by customs officials rifling through expats luggage ubtil they let them have something.

KittenKat · 05/07/2007 13:30

I heard about this breifly this morning. Oh how awful for the little girl, and for her parents.
. I hope she is found safe and well

mummylin2495 · 05/07/2007 13:44

if the parents do not have the ransom money do the government help with paying ?

Hope she's soon returned safe and well. On the Timesonline story, it said she was being driven alone to school (she's only 3)..

zubb · 05/07/2007 13:49

I don't understand mumblechum - if she was being driven then she was with someone so not alone.

Rachmumoftwo · 05/07/2007 13:50

I imagine for some people having a driver take their child to school is quite normal though, just because it may seem a bit strange to us.

mumblechum · 05/07/2007 13:50

What I mean is, I wouldn't have put a 3yr old alone in a taxi to school in a country where kidnapping is rife.

GrowlingTiger · 05/07/2007 13:51

It is pretty standard in Nigeria - for security everyone has drivers who take them everywhere. The driver will be someone she knows very well. It is not that they were putting her in a minicab or something!

GrowlingTiger · 05/07/2007 13:52

They work for an oil company or oil services company - they'll put up the money.

ComeOVeneer · 05/07/2007 13:52

Mumblechum, it wouldn't have been a cab it would be a private car with a driver in her parents' employment.

TinyGang · 05/07/2007 13:53

I know it's a hackneyed old saying...but what is the world coming to?

I can't bear the news these days

ComeOVeneer · 05/07/2007 13:53

Agree growlingtiger, the company will pay the ransom, they have before.

ComeOVeneer · 05/07/2007 13:55

A friend of my mother's was standing outside her house in a compund in Nigeria talking to 2 local men (known to her) when a car screeched to a halt on 2 masked men with guns grab the men and bundled them into the car. They were found shot and dumped by the roadside a few days later (she never found out why). It really is not a safe place to live.

ComeOVeneer · 05/07/2007 13:56

compound

mummylin2495 · 05/07/2007 13:59
